 1716Battle of Peterwardein. Prince Eugene of Savoy with 40,000 Austrians inflicted crushing defeat on 150,000 Turks under Darnad Ali Pasha killing 30,000 and capturing 250 guns at a cost of 3,000.
 1775the 1st Spanish ship, San Carlos, entered San Francisco bay.
 1796Second Battle of Castiglione delle Stiviere. Austrians defeat Napoleon but surrender to him the next day.
 1864"Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead." Admiral Farragut attacked confederate fleet in Mobile Bay forcing their surrender.
 1963Nuclear Test Ban Treaty signed.
 1965Pakistan invaded Kashmir provence of India.
