Blue Ponds of La Jarda, Veron, Altagracia Province
The Blue Ponds
VERON-PUNTA CANA
The Eastern plains -the Guavatico Savanna- of La Hispaniola are flat for Kilometers –with some lhills here and there, and with almost the same landscape: some tropical forest, sugar cane crops, cattle and beaches. you can do 4-wheeling, horseback riding, biking and some caving.

OR Hiking. Just on foot.

Our walk goes through 5 Kilometers of tropical forest, over a very  rough road. It ends, after a short down descent, in a marvelous small natural ponds –in fact, there are two of them, one nearby-  created by an underground river.

You can swim and dive or explore the surroundings. A nearby network of caves  -our next adventure-  is awaiting for you.

Remember to have some rest before to return to
civilization or wait for the commuting truck. Be prepared for a 40-minute very shaky return though.

Expect 80F temperatures and high humidity. Remember to drink a lot of water and walk slowly under the tropical sun. Some basic hiking and/or rapelling skills could be needed.
The Blue Ponds are located 5 Kilometers South the Higuey-Punta Cana Road, 5 Kilometers West from Veron's traffic light. The entrance is behind a workshop. The dirt road takes you also to La Jarda's caves, wetlands and cliffs. Then all the way down to the coast.
