Cabo Engaņo
The La Altagracia Province
ON ANY Sunday*...you could see ATVs, horses, off-road karts, scooters and people on foot...up and down from Cabeza de Toro to Cabo Engaņo and vice versa. No mountain bikers though.

I wonder why?

This Editor was the only
sporty soul in the bushes last Easter Sunday. I even jumped the first rule of the trail: never go alone. Anyway, my bike buddies were, well, at the beach, practicing the world's most popular male sport: girl watching.

I live here.
Sooo...once in a while I take some time off from that duty to mountain biking in this incredible peace of paradise we have here. Over an all-terrain bicycle (we do have some mountains also, excuse me...) you just blend with the landscape. Quiet. Slowly. All is green, cream and blue.

From the road to the Catalonia resort, go around and head South to the beach or through the wetlands (in dry season of course). Then is a 20-minute ride, over hard sand to this funny little monument over the cliff. You ARE there. Eastbound. Puerto Rico the other side.

Remember to carry enough water, use insect repellent and a highly ventilated helmet.

Enjoy!

*You have to be WELL over 50 years old to understand. You see, back in the 70's, Hollywood came with this B-type movie about motorcycling and the outdoors. Just an experiment, supported by the then unknown Japanese motorcycle manufactures. It was an absolutely success and help to launch the sport to this billionaire industry of today. I, was, there you know....
