Ray Kurzweil's "The Age of Spiritual Machines: When Computers Exceed Human Intelligence"
I chose to put my own book review on this book because it is the one that influenced the creation of OLP's "Spiritual Machines" CD.
This book is about the future, particularly the year 2020, when the author predicts that computers, man-made machines, will surpass human inteligence capabilities. This book is an in-depth explanation of the trend of computer technology and where it can take us in the very near future. Although this is a complicated idea, the author makes it understandable for someone with limited computer knowledge. It's a very interesting book with ideas and statistics that I've never heard of before. There are also plenty of charts and graphs to help you along the way, which I always enjoy in a book. I would recommended it to anyone who is into sci-fi (even though it is a non-fiction book), and to anyone interested in computers and the future of them.
About the author: Ray Kurzweil has written other books including "The Age of Intelligent Machines" and "The 10% Solution for a Healthy Life". With "The Age of Intelligent Machines", he has won the Association of American Publishers' Award regarding the Most Outstanding Computer Science Book of 1990. He was also the Inventor of the Year in 1988. He has met with the members of Our Lady Peace and they've described an enhancing experience with talking to them.
