The USS Theodore Roosevelt visits British shores

Early April, 2009, just after the G20 Summit, the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) visited Portsmouth in Hampshire, England. A
Nimitzclass supercarrier, the nuclear powered vessel drew the crowds as she anchored off Stokes Bay, Gosport. Below you can see how close she is to the beach on Stokes Bay (about one mile out). In the background is the Isle of Wight.
The next photo shows her a little more clearly - at this point many of the personnel were disembarking at the rear (you can see the ferry on the far right of the shot that they were getting onto) to go and explore the naval city of Portsmouth and beyond. We watched the ship's Commander on a TV news item and he said that he really wanted to go on shore so as to sample a meal of traditional British fish and chips!
The Solent (the stretch of water between the Isle of Wight and the mainland) was packed with sightseeing boats. These three people (see below) got a great view.
