Baby, Our Sun Conure |
Like we said before, Baby has some nerve damage that he received at a bird show by an overzealous patron. He has some difficulties getting around in certain places but we are working hard to come up with the best cage solution to make things easier for him (on the third cage already).
Baby was supposed to be a breeding bird, but when he was injured that was no longer an option for him. Luckily, the avian breeder that owned him kept him around even though she couldn't breed him. However, Baby wasn't socialized to be kept as a pet so now we have the task of doing that as well.
Baby has a naturally sweet disposition, so taming him further shouldn't really be a problem. He already craves attention and lets out a little squeak when one of us leaves the room and when you tell him, "come here Baby," he comes to the front of his cage to have his belly rubbed. It has also been a pleasant surprise to see that Baby is probably not going to be a typical screeching conure. So far he only chatters back at us while we talk to him and does the squeak if we leave him alone.
We are learning a lot of little techniques to help teach Baby that we aren't going to hurt him from a friend of ours that owns an exotic bird store and are excited about the progress we have made in the few short days since Baby has come to our home. |

Baby just after his first bath... we took a spray bottle of warm water and sprayed it into the air over his cage and he swung around playing in the water. |

James' attempt at getting a good picture of Baby by putting his hand in the cage holding the camera... good idea in theory, but where's the baby's head? |
