... Martin glanced around the room, ignoring the thumping American music vibrating the floor beneath his feet. A window covered in yellow and black soot and let slightly ajar was opposite the door, an old wooden chair placed consciously nearby. He wondered why the chair was there, in the corner; who had thought to put a chair in a room so lacking.

He clipped across the floor in his thong sandals, his faux-silk shirt growing damp with stifled sweat, his forehead stinging from perspiration. His concentration focused on the chair, its wiggling, unsturdy legs, and he slouched into it carefully, letting the girl come by her own initiative. ..
