Dedication to my Mother Cathy J. Montgomery This was the poem I found one day in an old catstaway purse of Mom's. And, to think I had almost thrown it away!! It had been on an old piece of crumpled paper I had regarded as mere trash. Reading her poem reaffirmed my belief that she was with my father finally. For an instant, the image of Mom with Dad flashed across my mind and, in my heart, I knew she was happy at last. Mom's Poem (Betty Pogue) Empty house, shell of a home, The hope, heart and life of it's gone; He went on and left me alone' Down the sweet years our life we shared, Our dreams, plans--hopes were here. But, now, I'm here and he is gone. Desolation black as night, World so bleak, so bare without His love, without him near. His arms and lips so warm and dear-- Always faithful, always here-- But...he is gone...and, now, I'm left... ************************************************** |
Dedicated to and read at my mother's funeral in Oct. 1988. Let Me Hear Your Laughter Let me hear your laughter; Let me see you smile; Let me hear you singing Old gospel hymns awhile... If only for a moment, We could just see and hear, We'd find some kind of comfort For our hearts to hold near! Oh, how sweetly did you smile! How dear your loving heart! you tried so very, very hard To stay with us and not part! And, how we all do miss you! How we weep in grieving sorrow To think we shall not see Your sweet, smiling face tomorrow. Then...speaks a voice--gently mild-- To my grieving heart, "Give me your grief, my dear child, And I will give you rest." So, with trust, I close my eyes; And, soon, I begin to see A vision of my Mama Smiling radiantly! I watch her as her arms open wide To embrace someone near her side; Smiling and laughing, then, They turn to me... And... I can see--oh dear Jesus--I can see... That someone else is... My Daddy! And, then...they begin to walk Towards a not too distant shore, Smiling and holding each other, Together, at last... Forevermore! Cathy J. Montgomery |
