Diet:      Diet is one of the most important things about cavy care.  When you go to buy staple/perpared food at the pet store you may see guinea pig/cavy food that contains seeds, DO NOT buy this, although it looks very tasty your cavy friends could choke on the seeds(because they cannot use their paws to grip their food like a hamster or mouse.)instead buy a pelleted food.  When you are buying staple/prepared food make sure it has ATLEAST 10%protein, 13%fiber and, 600mg of vitamin C per kg.      If you just fed your cavy nothing but staple/perpared food don't you think that would be a pretty boring diet?  So when feeding your cavy you can feed him all sorts of interesting vegetables and fruits. Here are some of Bosley's favorite vegetables and fruits: Tomatoes, baby carrots, carrots with the tops still on, watermelon, oranges, green beans, canteloupe, strawberries, parsley, basil, cucumber, bell pepper, honeydew, apple, eggplant, banana, corn on the cob, and spinach.  The vegetables NOT to feed your cavy

are:  Iceburg lettuce and rhubarb.(These vegetables can KILL your cavy friend so never feed them to your cavy its a death sentance.)       You can buy allready perpared treats for your cavy from your local pet store If you buy these treats make sure once again that they have

NO seeds in them, and only give these treats in small amounts they can be fattening and if givin in large amounts can lead to obesity.       Guinea pigs like humans cannot produce their own vitamin C so they need atleast 10mg of vitamin C everyday to prevent Scurvy. food)      Timothy hay is the best though it may be hard to find just ask at your pet store and they will probally order some in for you.  As you can tell there is more than just one food item you can feed your cavy, so try different things and find your cavys favorite:)
