Don't get lost in what might've been!!! Make
Chris and Eve happen!!!!
Last week I asked the question about what were your thoughts and feelings
for the character of Eve Lambert (Collins, Thornhart). I have to
say that my findings will have to wait until next week, since I feel compelled
to take a stand about an opinion letter I read in the October 9, 2001 issue
of Soap Opera Weekly.
Here is the letter that was printed in the Public Opinion segment of
the magazine:
Chris and Eve?
My response to ALL the Port Charles fans who Chris and Eve together:
Get real! Eve is not even thinking about Chris. There's nothing
at all romantic about them. Besides, Chris doesn't really care about
Eve's feelings. All Chris thinks about is himself. He's way
too manipulative and jealous for Eve. Ian and Eve are the couple
who love and trust each other. As it is, Eve is always watching her
back when she's around Chris. And, as she once told him to his face,
she loves him as a friend, but she doesn't have the kind of love for him
that a husband and wife should have for each other.
Without genuine love and trust, there's not much of a relationship
to begin with. You Chris fans need to move on without Eve.
Here's an idea: Bring Skye Chandler from GH to PC. Chris and Skye
would make one terrific couple. May Ian and Eve stay together forever,
and always be happy.

After I read this letter, it really offended me that a fan of PC wanted
me to GET REAL! Well, I did get real-real mad that is, at the arrogence
of someone telling me that my views and hopes for the show weren't valid
just because I am a Chris and Eve fan. Anyone who knows me and has
read my Board Review articles realizes that Chris and Eve are my
favorite characters on PC. Granted, Ian is not one of my favorites,
but I do not bash his fans for liking his character on the show.
We all have different thoughts and opinions on what we would like to see
happen in Port Charles.
Chris and Eve have had a history together on the show since it began
over four years ago. They have had to face many trials and tribulations
along the way. Even though sometimes their lives went in different
directions they have always mananged to reconnect somewhere along the way
and when they do, you can see the genuine feelings of friendship that they
manage to portray to the audience. No matter what happens to Eve,
I think that Chris will always try to be there for her if he possibly can.
His loves her enough to let her go find happiness elsewhere even if it
breaks his heart and if that isn't the ultimate sacrifice that someone
can make for someone else, I don't know what would be. Saying that
Chris doesn't really care about Eve's feelings is just plain ludicrous
in my opinion. Watch the history of the show and it ties into their
great friendship time after time. Chris would lay down his life for
Eve if that is what it took to protect her and keep her safe.
Chris is a complex character and you have to look beyond the surface
to see what makes him tick. I love it that he isn't a hero on the
show. Nolan North is so talented that he can make a scene come alive
no matter what is going on in the storyline. He and Julie Pinson
are great together when they get a scene to play out with one another.
So, if Ian and
Eve fans feel threatened by the Chris and Eve fans who hope that one
day TPTB get a major clue and get them together as a couple, then so be
it. At the PC fan dinner this past summer, guess what? Chris
and Eve were voted by the fans who attended as the Couple They Want To
See Get Together in the future. So I am not alone in wanting this
couple to have a shot to see where life might end up taking them.
Whether or not Chris and Eve ever become a couple on the show, I still
want them to be friends. Their friendship has survived over the past
tumultuous four years and I hope it continues down the road. Love
may come and go (for example, Kevin and Eve, Chris and Julie) but true
friendship will last forever. Chris and Eve are fortunate to have
one of those friendships that will last a lifetime no matter what happens
to each of their characters in the fictional town of Port Charles.
I am getting real, real about the fact that Chris and Eve will be friends
despite the odds and all the people who will come between them. I
will not give up my hopes for them.
Until next week.......Katie
