The Elven Kingdom of the Forest |
![]() |
In another part of the forest lay the beautiful Elven Kingdom of Gwendalow. Gwendalow sat near the edge of the forest . If one should step outside the trees you would see a large field with a path leading into the mountains. In those mountains lay many different small weyrs and holds, this is called the Eastern Rock Territory. The forest that the elves live in is called Belfain Forest - the largest forest in all of Pern. No -one knows of the Elves existence in the forest cause very few ever venture into the darkness of the trees. This would all change however. Our story begins with a young elven girl called Fae. |

Fae was a pretty young elf with beautiful blue green hair. Fae was the daughter of the elven king and queen. She was not entirely happy being the princess of Gwendalow however. She wished she could leave the confines of the forest and venture out into the rest of Pern. Her mother came to her one day and asked... "Why do you not dress like a proper lady Fae, take of that rediculous outfit and for heaven's sake put that knife away." said Queen Rose "Oh mother I hate wearing dresses and heals and all that other garbage I refuse to wear it. All I want to do is go on an adventure and discover the outside world" Fae repilied. "You disappiont me my daughter I thought you would be reasonable but obviously not. You know you cannot leave the forest, there are many foul things out there like dragons and other such things. Also you will give away the secret of our people and for that you would be banished." the Queen said to her daughter in a annoyed/conscerned tone. "Oh but mother dragons are beautiful creatures I would just love to see one. I here the dragons out there are even more beautiful than those that live in our forest." said Fae "I would prefer if you did not mention those creatures again Fae all they cause is trouble and I shall not have you dealing with such things." said the Queen starting to get rather angry with her daughter now. "But mother you don't understand they arn't...." Fae started "NOT ANOTHER WORD SHALL BE SPOKEN OF THOSE CREATURES" the |
queen shouted "do I make myself clear" "FINE" said Fae And with that she ran off to her quarters inside the castle, tears were welling up in her eyes. |
The castle in Gwendalow was a beautiful building much like one out of a fairytale. Fae's room was the one in one of the turrets with the blue curtains. Her mother and father's was some distance away on one of the lower levels (the one with the large balcony and pink curtains). Fae slamed the door behind her when she got to her room. She was so angry why was it that her mother and father could not understand that she felt like a bird stuck in a cage that was to small. She wanted to see the rest of Pern. Ever since her brother Darren had been banished she felt so lonely. "I don't fit in here" she thought to herself "I hate it here, noone understands me" "I wish i could just leave....infact maybe I will run away that would show them" Then a plan started to form in her head. She would run away and see the rest of Pern. She would go into the mountains. She would make her way to the Ryslen weyr, where purhaps if she was lucky she could try and impress a dragon. The odds of this were slim but she knew at least she would be out seeing the world and meeting new people. She pulled out the map of pern that her father had given her when she was little. She predicted that it would take her about a week to get to Ryslen on foot if the weather was good. She traced the path on the map with her finger as if memorizing it in her head. She started to pack her bag, in it she put the bear essentials - the map, spare, clothes, a water bottle, camping gear and toiletries - she would sneak down to the kitchens and steal the food that she would need for her journey and fill her water bottle. That night she snuck down into the kitchens. The fat cook was sleeping and snoring loudly in his chair. She crept past him to the storeroom and gathered all the items she would need to survive for the next week. She put it all in her pack and filled her water bottle. She decided that she would put up camp about 500 metres away from the edge of the forest and rest until morning. She crept past the sleeping gaurds at the draw bridge and laughed to herself "Mother and father would spew if they saw these to sleeping but I guess they've always been like that" She crossed the draw bridge and went into the trees. She didn't have far to go before she was out of Belfain Forest she got there without any problems and set up camp once she had reached her set destination. She looked back at the forest and sighed, "Here come the flask backs" she thought Fae had lived in Belfain forest all her life. She and her brother Darren used to have hours of fun playing hide and seek among the trees. She missed her brother dearly. Ever since he had been caught with that dragon egg and sent away there had been a huge gap within herself, a hole if you will. He was two year older than she. Fae was now 19. She thought about her mother and father. They had always been strict but fair. But since the incident with Darren she was starting to dout the whole "fair" thing. She knew her brother did not steal that egg but I guess there was know way to prove it. She felt a small tear trickling down her cheek and wiped it away angrily. "I don't want to live there anymore, I have a new life now and i'm not going back until i've seen Pern" With this thought firmly placed in her mind she drifted off to sleep. The next morning she woke with the sun in her face and a gentle breeze blowing. She sat up and looked at the scenery, it really was beautiful out here. Why had the elves never thought to wonder out here for like a picknick or something. She packed up her things and started up the path into the mountains. It was easy going for the first part. She saw many different creatures on her walk, many lovely birds and small animals even the insects facinated her. She took the time to draw a few of her favourites. Near the end of the day the path turned steeply upwards and she new she'd better find a place to camp so she would be refreshed and ready to attack the walk. The next morning she woke and started off again the walk was much harder this time but Fae was a fit young elf and it wasen't too hard for her. The next few days went on like this with nothing really surpirising happening. In the afternon of her 5th day walking she stopped to have lunch. While she was eating a sandwich she heard something rustle in the long grass. Her keen eyes looked to wear the sound had come from and she saw a flash of white. She creature moved again and she got up to see if she could find what it was. She walked over as it moved again and then all of a sudden it stopped. She bent over to have a better look when all of a sudden it lept out of the bushes right at her. Shocked she fell backwards falling hard on her behind. She scrambled up rubbing her sore back side and hov ering infront of her was a little white dragon...well at least thats what she thought it was. It was a beautiful little creature....she |

laughed as she imagined her mother doing a over dramatic fake feint at the sight of it. "Hello little guy" Fae said quietly The little creature tilted its head to the side and chirped "Well your a nice little fella arn't you" she laughed and put her hand forward The little dragon shyed away at first but then when it realised that there was no imediate danger it came back and landed on her arm. "Well your friendly arn't you...I will call you Ruby |
because of those beautiful red eyes of yours" Ruby seemed happy with this because she chirped happily and flew around Fae before landing on her arm again. Fae was happy with her new little friend she was starting to get lonely. So they set of again Ruby siting on Fae's shoulder. They continued on their journey for the last two days before they finally got to the weyr. It was a very busy place she realised. She and Ruby just stood there and watched people go by. Nobody seemed to be taking any notice of them. She heard a loud noise and looked up "Oh my gosh!!!" she said awstruck A beautiful gold dragon flew past at a great speed. She was followed by a couple of bronze and various other colours of dragon. She took them to be males. There must be a flight going on. "Wow this is amazing" She watched on in amazment, the flight lasted for an hour or so before a big bronze dragon finally caught her. She turned away and started to walk to one of the big buildings around the place. She steped inside one of them and went over to a woman sitting at a desk writing on some parchent. The woman looked at Fae through her glasses. "Yes can i help you" she said "Uh yes i've come on a long journey to get here, I want to impress a dragon" Fae replied The woman laughed and took of her glasses "Well missy you can't just turn up out of nowhere and just impress a dragon. Its a very complicated thing the dragon choses the rider. You have to register as a candidate first. Besides there is no clutch at the moment you'll have to wait until that big gold out there clutches" she said "Oh ok wel where can I register" Fae replied "Well you have to go to the main building and talk to one of the elders of the place, if he sees you fit then you shall be accepted for candicy. Now off you go i'm a busy woman." she said "Thank you sorry to bother you" Fae replied and walked away. Fae found the main builiding and went to where the the elders were... "Um sir are you busy could I please talk to you for a minute" The man looked at her and nodded "Come in child how may I help you" he replied "Well I was wondering about becoming a candidate for the next impression" Fae said nervously "It is done" the old man replied "What... but...I thought...how" Fae stuttered "It is the dragon who choses itz rider, we have no control over that. You may become a candidate as long as you promise that if you do impress that the dragon will become your life. You must care for it as if it were yourself. It shall become part of who you are" he said smiling "Oh yes of course I promise, i won't let you down, thank you" Fae said quickly quit exited now. "Its ok child now go find yourself a room to stay in the impression won't be for a while yet" Fae thanked the elder and walked out. She was so exited she couldn't belive it her dream was actually happeneing. She found a room and made herself comfortable. All there was to do now was wait...... |
