“B’Elanna?” Chakotay’s hesitant tone froze the engineer in place.
She turned slowly, as though she distrusted the evidence of her ears. “You’re back!” She half flew to hug him.
He stumbled back from her enthusiastic greeting, rubbing ribs sheepishly. “I’m fine.” He tried to allay her fears, but his expression became sheepish. “I, well...”
Her hands went to her hips. “You broke my shuttle again, didn’t you?”
“Only a little.”
She clenched her teeth, then grabbed him in a painful bear hug. He wasn’t sure if it was meant to punish or welcome. “At least I know it’s really you.”
