*The teachers may use this site as homework for the Students.

Direction:
Follow the lesson A-E below. You will learn why it is important to evaluate the reliability of on-line articles and how to evaluate them.

Let's compare the artilces in a library (e.g.J.Paul Leonard Library  at San Francisco State University) and the ones on the WWW. How are they different? .

Here is the poossible list of differences between SFSU library and WWW. You can add more for each category if you think about any other differences

WORLD WIDE WEB  SFSU LIBRARY
anyone can publish a Web site  books are selected by library staff based on their value to students
almost instant publishing  publishing books and magazines takes more time and resources
marketing/sales/advertising very common less  marketing/advertising/sales
links to other sites  references to other books
audio/video/text/pictures together  audio/video/text/pictures separate
can be continually updated  updates slower
old information might stay on the Internet forever  usually older editions are replaced by new ones
possibly less help finding sources  librarians available
