This lesson plan is designed especially for ESL/EFL  students in writing/reading classes
at college  level.  However, you may use this lesson by modifing it according to your students' level.

Objectives:

Students

Setting:
Students are going to write about "globalization" for the third essay, in which they research, synthesize, and respond to ideas from several online sources. They have already learned how to use the search engine to find the articles in the previous lesson. As homework they found a few articles related to the topic and (wrote down the URL).  In today's class, they are going to evaluate whether the on-line articles are appropriate and supportive for the essay #3.

Procedure:
In class (ideally in computer lab):

1. The teacher (T) elicits from the students (Ss) some questions which they should ask when they evaluate the on-line articles.
2. The T submits 'Evaluation criteria form' to the class
(to see this Evaluation form, click this link and go to EVALUATION->CARS Source Evaluation Worksheet)

3. The class goes over the form together.  The T makes sure that Ss understand the questions on the form.
4. As an example, the T puts a sample on-line article on OHP and shows the class show to evaluate the sample article by using the 'Evaluation criteria' form.
5. Ss work in pairs.  Ss open URL of the on-line articles that they found as homework and evaluate the articles.  (Let's suppose the Ss are seeing them on the
computer screen.)* The T can have them do this part at Self Study:Evaluating Web Sites
6. The T has the students report on their evaluation (Whether they think they can use the articles). Ss can also write up their evaluation or present them orally to the
entire class.
