I was lucky enough to live near Kyoto for 8 months when I participated in the Associated Kyoto Program, which every year brings around 40 students from 17 Univerities in the United States to live and go to school in Japan during their junior year. I didn't realize how lucky I had it down there until after spending a few months up north!
Every year, renewing 1st-year JETs have a conference in Kobe, which is near Kyoto. So of course, we took this opportunity to do some sightseeing, and even to visit my old host family...
