193B EDINBURGH GUIDES
Programme - autumn 2002
Welcome back for the new school year!  For more details on outings, holidays, etc. visit the events page.  For what's going on in our meetings this term, stay here!  To see the full list of what activities the guides requested click here.

2nd September - games, mini bannoffee puddings (see pictures), planning for the rest of the term & our weekend holiday.  See list of guides suggestions here.

9th September - tuckshop (Louise), set unit guidelines, balloon games, choose a community action activity?  Campfire

16th September -
forms and money due back for watersports!
We were going to sort out the patrols and have a patrol challenge evening... but then Sandra remembered it was the holiday weekend so quite a few guides would be away.  So instead we played a new game (
Hopping Jane), made paper boats to carry nightlights & sailed them, then toasted marshmallows over candles (click here for pictures) & had a quick campfire.  Thankyou to Mrs McGrath for helping out, and particularly for putting up with all the noise!

Bivvy
for BP people
Weekend sailing, canoeing, barbecue
(see
events page for details)

23rd September -
* Forms and deposit due for holiday weekend - we have FOURTEEN guides coming!
* Tuckshop
* This week turned into a craft night  - pyrography (burning patterns on to cork or leather - cork coasters, leather keyrings), sand pictures (which for some reason didn't work too well - maybe the wrong glue??), friendship bracelets, jumping beans and a few other oddments.  Pitures are
here.  Much mess was made by all, and many many thanks to Mr Whyte for taking over the pyrography and making nobody tried to burn patterns into their friends!

30th September
- We played skittle, and then we finally sorted out the patrols!  Each patrol planned some patrol time ("Go For It" sessions) and made a display of photos which were taken at guide meetings and events last year.

7th October - We had a game of a basic version of four square at the beginning and then the patrols were so busy with their planned activities that they didn't have time to do their own webpages which were planned for the night!  Check out the patrol pages for what they got up to.

There was also a parents meeting for the November Holiday - a note will come home on 14th October for those parents who weren't there.

14th October -
the patrols were all cooking tonight - see the patrol pages for what they got up to.  Thanks to Mrs Walker & Mrs McGrath for hosting patrols.

Now some
confusion...

21st October
- Mid term break despite what it said in the letter at the beginning of term.

28th October - Halloween party, organised by the Elephant patrol.  There was LOTS of food, games, competitions and music.  Oh, and more food!  Pictures are on the Elephants' patrol page.

Holiday weekend

4th November - Chocolate quiz (click here to see where the quiz came from) and games.

11th November
- International Night, organised by BP people.

18th November - Christmas boxes for Operation Christmas Child.  We put together 14 boxes, and raised over £70 to send them.  We raised the money using "football team" cards (they have 40 football teams listed & you get someone to "buy" each team, then scratch off the silver panel at the top of the card to find out the winning team... and whoever bought that team gets half the money back).  For more information about Operation Christmas Child click here

We went to the
Gangshow on Friday night and saw Louise & some other people we knew singing, dancing and doing comedy sketches.  More information about the show on the Kings Theatre website and the Scouts' Gangshow website.

25th November
- Go For It activity (cake decorating, popcorn and Christmas cards) and making calendars.  Thanks to Kara's mum for supervising the Dolphins making popcorn!

2nd December - Patrol leaders council, Christmas craft, games.
Return slips & paymentdue for Alien Rock!
We played Hopping Jane, made candy cane reindeer, did a careers quiz and had patrols in council followed by the patrol leaders' council.  They came up with a draft programme for next term, which you can see here.

9th December - Christmas meeting - Christmas games and crafts.  Crafts - face cloth & soap bunny rabbit (well, the guides wanted to do them!), painting Christmas baubles with glass paint.  Lots of mess, of course!

16th December - Climbing at Alien Rock - we went by Lothian buses and spent an hour and a half climbing.  We were shown the safety equipment (helmets, ropes and harnesses) and how to use it then we got to climb different bits of indoor "rock".
