In 1983 in a small Stockton State College apartment (G-17), the 1st Whitey Football Pool was held. The inaugural season of only 6 players grew and grew, and this year we look to excite up to 30 fans of the game for the 23rd Annual WFP.... "Why do you do this every year, Whitey?" Whitey's Pub has been running said pool because he loves the game. In 1977 at the spry old age of 12, he entered a similarly run pool of 30 or so thirtysomethings. Having never won a weekly prize, he walked away with the Yearly Award (a major award), and was hooked. The Chief Organizer title also gives me the opportunity to keep in touch with many of you through the years, even if it’s only from September to late January. With all that said, here’s the deal for 2007-08'. 1. Pool consists of picking all NFL games via a provided spread each week. Spread is taken from a chosen Las Vegas casino, and the line as of Wednesday is the official mark for the week. I will email you all the spreads each Wednesday, and also post them on this website as well. 2. Player with most correct picks each week wins $50.00. In the event of a tie, total points scored in the Monday Night Football game will determine the winner. You will give me your points each week along with your selections via email. I will email everyone who is “live” on Monday afternoons, to add to your viewing drama. 3. The cutoff time for getting picks in is MIDNIGHT SATURDAY. Picks that arrive after this will be accepted IF, the date and time on the email is prior to DNIGHT. Please activate your 'Sent Items' folder, in case your picks get lost or hung up in cyberspace (it happens). As much as I trust you all and consider you friends, I can't accept anyone's word on who they did or didn't pick. I need to prove to the other players that picks were sent in on time. 4. Winnings: Person with the best YTD 1st half record after week nine (9) will win $50.00. Person with the best record for the 2nd half of the season will win another $50.00. Based on how many paying customers (I play for free), the breakdown for yearly prizes will be: (roughly) 1st- $700 2nd- $400 3rd- $200 4th- $150. 4. This year I will again offer a Survivor Pool. Each week you will pick one team to win outright (no spread). Once you use a team, you can not use them again for the year (Captain Rule). As long as you keep winning, you are live. One loss, adios amigos! The cost for this pool is $25, winner take all, and the cost is already built in. 5. By entering the WFP-2009, you are also paid in full for the separate Playoff Pool. This pool uses no spreads. Best record for the 11 playoff games wins real cash greenies. This pool pays out to the winner and the runner up only. 6. Default Picks: Default picks will be accepted towards yearly standings, however default picks will not be eligable for the weekly $50 prize. 7. NEW! For 2009 the player with the worst win total at the end of the season will win a $25 BOOBY PRIZE. This has been suggested for many years, and this year I'll see how it goes. |

Playoff Pool 2010: The playoff pool consists of correctly picking all 11 playoff games straight up, no spreads. No DEFAULTS. After the Super Bowl, whomever has the most correct picks wins the pool. $200 for the winner, $100 for the runner up. In the event of a tie, the are 4 tiebreakers.... 1. The winner of the Super Bowl selection knocks off player who lost the final Super Bowl pick. 2. Your record in the two Championship weekend games (AFC and NFC Championships, two weeks prior to the Bowl). 3. Whomever comes closest to picking the eventual Super Bowl winner. You will give me your guess at who wins the Super Bowl with your first week's picks. If you do not give me a selection, you will not do well in this 3rd tiebreaker. 4. Total Points for the Super Bowl, to be given with your last pick of the season. DEADLINE FOR ALL WEEKEND'S PICKS is MIDNIGHT FRIDAY NIGHT. |
