The Speedway has been redesigned and is ready to roll in 2004. The layout is now "Leadfoot Alley-esk"... As you cross the start/finish line there is a hard 180 degree bank right. This is followed by a soft left to the "exits", which remain from the last design. After the exits, we elevate to two hairy 180 tight turns, first right, then left. Next, a left hand turn and over the "Crosstown Expressway Bridge", where you'll find a squeeze track and criss cross, into a left hand U turn. Down another straight to an "S" turn, then you head to Route 1, a series f "S" curves about 13 feet long. . We then head back to mid-track for a hard right into a hairpin turn, and out of that we head to the far turn. This is a soft, slow turning left turn into the 16' backstretch, into a 90 degree bank, and then another 90 degree bank onto the front stretch, and heading for home! |
Whitey's Speedway (est. 1973) began a long time ago in our family's living room. As a kid I spent endless hours racing the matchbox like cars with friends and alone. In my early 30's, it- like everything else I owned, ran in my garage over two pieces of plywood making a giant "L". The last two years Whitey's Speedway has lived in the room adjoining Whitey's Pub. Three 4x8 panels in a "U" shape, cars owned by 5 racers (and growing), and well over 100 feet of track make the speedway one of South Jersey's hottest racing venues... |
Racing Rules: All races are in a best-of-three format and ten laps per race. Racing is halted in the event of a crash. If the wreck includes only one player, that player is given a "mark". Cars are reset and the race resumes. Should the same player wreck again before the end of the race, OR before his opponent receives a "mark", the race is over. IF the opponent were to crash, both drivers continue the race under "even" driving conditions. Basically, crash twice before your opponent does and you're cooked. Any crash that includes contact with your opponent is declared "PAINT". Race is halted, both cars are restarted from the crash site, and race resumes with no marks given (plus, it's really cool). |
In early March, four cars were elected into the newly formed Hall of Fame. These cars are off the table for regular racing, but will still be run from time to time by experienced drivers... |
Cars: There are three Divisions of cars at Whitey Speedway. Division or Class A are all Marchon, Tomy Super G-Plus, Tyco 440, and Life Likes. Division B racers include AFX G-Plus and Tyco HP7 chasis. C Division cars are older TycoPro chasis and the popular AFX Magnatraction runners, plus- anything that runs like shit. Some cars fall outside these parameters based on circmstance (see Meddick Motors Hopper). We are also toying with the idea of a Vintage Division, but thus far nobody has any cars or parts to get that puppy underway. |

New Developments... The Fall/Winter racing season is underway, with two racing days already under our belts. Seabo Motors was the big loser on the first Monday night in November (think Jets slaugtering the Dolphins on MNF, that night), while Whitey's string performed well. Jerry's Meddick Motors also took the opportunity to knock the snot out of Chip. On the 2nd Sunday in November at Lead Foot alley in Vineland (think both Jets and Eagles losing), Mr. Seabo performed a bit better, but still managed to post the poorest record of the day. Monday November 15th we hope to get back to Whitey Speedway for some 440 qualifying and racing. New photos above of some of Whitey's runners. Qualifying: Owners are allowed to qualify as many cars as they like (and have), in whatever division is being run that night. The top 8 fastest qualifiers will participate in the evening's races. #8 vs. #7, down to #2 vs. #1. If an owner can not qualify, he will be allowed to enter under a provisional rule, and will be added to the field of seven others randomly. |
