Whitey Speedway Racing Tips

So, you wanna be a slot car racer huh?  Well, it’s a lot more complicated than just gunning the gas and watching them fly off the track.  This is serious business at the Pub, and the below hints will help make your Speedway visit an enjoyable one.

The first thing you need to do is get to know your car.  Any car selected can put you in the winner's circle.  Pick out a car that suits your personality.  Place the car on the track, hold up the rear slicks and give it some gas.  This will warm up the car and give you an idea of how well the car will “coast” after the juice has been cut.

Once the car is warmed up, take it around the track SLOWLY.  You want to get the feel of the car and the track at this point, and walking over to pick it up every 10 feet isn’t as much fun.  Once you feel comfortable that you can navigate 10 laps without exploding, you’re ready to race.

Racing Keys

This again goes with “know the track”.  There are perhaps a half dozen areas of each lane on the Speedway that you must take SLOWLY.  There are also areas on the track for each lane that you can let it rip.  Knowing when to take it easy and when to go for speed are crucial.

Race Your Race

Racers that try to stay with his opponent at all times are usually losers.  You need to accept the fact that on certain areas of the Raceway, your opponent has track advantage and can pull away.  At other areas you can catch up or pass with consistency.  Don’t let yourself get suckered into a speed duel when you’re not in a speed zone.  You will undoubtedly fly off the track.  Good opponents will try to entice you to stay with them, knowing full well that a crucial area is approaching for you.  Race your own race and let the Chips fall where they may.

Have a Strategy

Do you think you have a faster car and want your opponent to be forced to stay with you?  Or, are you unsure about your ability.  Do you want to let your fellow racer take a lead while you take it easy, and hope that he crashes out of a race?  Strategy is key at the Speedway, and is one of the finer aspects of tuning up your ability.

Lead Foot Alley

Lead Foot Alley first began in the head of Founder Charles "Chip" Seabo's large head.  He wanted to bring the excitement of slot car racing to the poor and backward folk of the deep South in New Jersey.  He wanted home track advantage.  He was tired of losing.

The foundation is three 4x8 boards making up a giant L.  Sixteen feet down the backstretch cars will travel.  The new version of the  track was designed by Chaz and tweeked by Whitey.,

The track used on Lead Foot II is now AFX.  The final design was competed in mid March 04'.  We are looking forward to many a speed duel at Vineland NJ's finest HO slot car set up.
