misc. caving pics...
Just a small collection of some of my favorite pics from miscellaneous trips underground...  It was pretty difficult to choose which pictures to put in these pages, as I have tons of pics, all with their own "fond" memories.   I hope you enjoy these, and that they give you some idea of the sport as well as what can be seen underground.
This is my all time favorite caving picture.  This is Shawn in the back half of Barton's Cave.  The pigeon hole that he has his head in is pretty small, but it's only that tight for about 2 feet before it starts opening up, so it's not too bad.  We actually do go through this.  Approximately 1/3 of the cave lies behind this point.
This pic was taken looking straight up a vertical shaft in Lemon Hole.  That's Don, my caving "guru," who has taught me everything that I know about caving and climbing.
This is probably my second favorite cave photo.  This is taken from the inside of Barton's Cave early last spring.  The pic is not upside down, this is an ice stalagmite.  I was there about a month before this, and there were 30-40 of these things all over the place, of all shapes and sizes.  They looked like lava lamps made of ice.  Pretty cool!
A view from the outside of Barton's on the same day.
This pic shows the kind of fun you can have at grotto meetings.  lol  This is the "squeeze box", a wooden box with an adjustable top so that you can change the opening height.  This was me, when I was much skinnier, in my moment of glory, going through at 6 1/2 inches.  It's one thing to push yoursef into something like this when you know your friends can raise the top if you get stuck.  It's quite another when you know there's hundreds of thousands of tons of rock and dirt above you that ISN'T  going to move!  Pushing yourself into stuff this small isn't adviseable out in the real world.
