A/C Bracket Modification |
This page is to help all those that wants A/C on their Civics with B-Series Engines. This was made for my CRX but you can adapt the same method for newer Civic compressors also. Parts List: Metal bar from Home Depot Drill Hack saw |
Here you have the virgin bracket ready to get drilled and tapped for the A/C compressor. First you all know that the first two screws on the (from the picture) on the right fits with no problem with the addition of a few washers on the bottom right bolt. But with only two bolts on it's not secure enough. So we need to add one more on the left to hold it in place better. The bracket that I am using is a PR3 from 90 teg. First get a drill bit to drill out the top left bolt threads out and drill thru the bracket. |
This is the view from the back of the bracket. Just drill thru like so and shave the webbing down as flat as you can so we can use there will be a bolt that goes thru the back to the front and the brackets will be tapped so the screw will be srewed into it. You will also drill thru the bottom left compressor bolt thread like top. Just repeat as above but for the bottom left bolt. |
Next we will cut out some metal plates. One for the top and two for the bottom. You need two for the bottom cause of the the compressor does not sit flat if you use one. These are 1/4" thick steel bars. The ones for the bottom will be sandwiched together. Make the Holes as the pic on the left. I will measure the length and where to drill this weekend and will update on Tuesday with that Info. On the longer strip which is for the top you will have to tap the middle hole for the Original compressor bolt thread and slightly cut the bolt down a little. |
Here are the Brackets Mounted. When you tighten the bolts form the back to secure the brackets make sure you don't tighten them too much just about 90%. Reason for this is that the bolts behind the brackets will have to be tighten first. Inorder for you to do that you have to give yourself enough space to put a the 14mm socket and tighten them to the engine and then you have to tap the plates down to line up with the stock A/C mounting holes. Once you tap it down it will tighten some more. |
Left - This is a back view of the Bracket. Notice two bolts that is going from the back to the front. Right - side view |
Left - mounted to my old B18 LS (R.I.P.) Right - my old compressor that never F#%king worked. The compressor bolt on the bottom left will have to be shaved down if you are going to put the charge pipe like me, right infront of it to clear. |
Right - Everything mounted on the car. the pipe you see in front of the compressor is my charge pipe 2 1/4". You will have to do as above to make it work. Left - top view mounted on old spare engine. |
I will put some better pics up later, if you have any questions you can email me at wwli11@aol.com |
