David grew up in a small town in southwest Alabama. His dad was a doctor and his mom did much of the clerical work in the office. His dad passed away in July of 2004. David had an older brother, who died at the age of 4, and two older sisters. I grew up in south Alabama, near the beaches. My mom works for an attorney in my hometown and my dad is in construction. I am an only child. (What a mix...an only and the baby of the family!) SO....How did we manage to get together? David and I met back in 1996 at a mutual friend's house. I had known this friend, Cliff, since elementary school and David had met him at Auburn. Cliff didn't drive and David would drive Cliff home for visits. It worked out well for David, too....Cliff's mom is a great cook. One night, another friend and I stopped by Cliff's house because I'd heard he was in town. David and I were instantly attracted to each other. I told my mom the next day that David was the man I was going to marry. Nine months later, David proposed (after asking my mom and dad) and a year to the date that we met, in June 1997, we were married in a beautiful outdoor ceremony at the church I grew up in. (My dad's only stipulation was the same that my grandpa gave him when he asked to marry my mom.... "Just don't bring her back!" We celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary June 14, 2008! |
