ARGENTINE TANGO

Interested in learning to dance the Argentine Tango as danced and taught by the Argentinians themselves?

I have just returned from the sixth annual United States Tango Congress in Miami, probably the biggest and most important festival in the U.S.A. and Europe. There I had private lessons with the best teachers, dancers and choreographers in the world. They were:

Osvaldo Zotto and Lorena Ermocida (Tango stars in the touring Juilo Inglesias show).

Facunda and Kely Posadas (“Milongueros Argentinos’)

Fernanda Ghi and Guillermo Merlo (“Forever Tango and 1999 IDO World Argentine Tango Champions)

Carolina Zokalski and Diego di Falco (“Tango Passion”)

Fabian Salas and Carolina del Rivero (Fabian along with Gustavo Naveira was one of the stars of the Sally Potter film “The Tango Lesson”)

All these teachers are considered to be Maestros by their peers and those people who know and matter.

I have also had private lessons with Juan Carlos Copes in Argentina. Copes is revered and admired as the first person to put tango on the stage. In London last year I participated in a workshop with Gustavo Naveira and Giselle Anne. I have also trained extensively in London with Paul Lange, one of England’s most competent teachers and editor of the international tango magazine El Once. In addition to this I spent three weeks in Switzerland training with Shawn and Cathy in Lausanne.

Training of Male Dancers – Guapos

This system is being used successfully in Argentina and Japan. The men take part in a special class for men only where they train together learning both the lead and follow roles which are frequently different in the Argentine Tango. It is therefore absolutely essential that the leader know both. Training will consist of a one hour class once a week. In return for each hour of free training they owe me two hours of their presence to act as partners in my Milongas (dance) held once a month on the last Friday of each month. I may call on them to fill in as partners to gender-balance classes held once a week on Monday evenings, or any workshop I may decide to run). No money exchanges hands in this system.

Besides the tango we work with the New Swing (which I learnt in Miami during private lessons with Facunda and Kely Posados). In addition to this the Salsa is also taught according to the Ron Montez system. He is considered to be the top teacher and dancer of this Latin American rhythm.
