About My Work

My original interest in photography was as a hobby, so I've started studying a Visual Arts Diploma at TAFE and now I would be quite keen to pursue this full time.

In todays day and age, one of the best and fastest ways of showing your work to the world is to make a webpage. So heres mine. Essentially, this will be a collection of my favourite pieces, along with a little spiel about where it was done, and how it came about.

Most of my work at the moment was from the shots I've taken for TAFE, which is what I've shown in Gallery 1. Most of them are still lifes, although there are a few nature shots in there as well.

The photos in Gallery 2 - the portraits - are my favourites. Portraiture is the only form of photography as far as I'm concerned! Seriously - portraiture appeals to me because I like the challenge of portraying a person, and their personality, in a simple photograph. It takes time and a bit of effort to pull this off - otherwise you simply end up with a photo that has someone in it.

BTW: I'm not saying I've mastered portraiture yet!

The Tools Of My Trade

My camera - the Pentax MZ-30, is pretty good. I've only been using it for a few months now, but it seems to hold its own in a large number of situations. It has a number of preset modes, like still life, action and landscapes, but still has the options for full manual or aperture/shutter priority.

The autofocus occasionally gets a little confused, but this can be overcome by using the manual focus mode.

It is very versatile, light weight and easy for beginners to operate, while providing plently of features for the intermediate user.

My Lens is a Sigma, 28mm-105mm. The versatility is perfect for what I want it for. Offering a small focal length for the macro and landscape shots, along with a longer length for portraits and closeups.
