Edinburgh castle
is located in the middle of the city of Edinburgh Scotland. It
sits
atop a high rocky promontory that dominates the surrounding
countryside. The only access to the castle is along the sloped
side of
the promontory which has many streets and buildings on it. The
"Royal
mile" as it is known is the main road that runs from the gates of the
castle to Holyrood Palace nearby. Edinburgh castle offers
excellent
views of the surrounding city and nearby Firth of Forth. I
enjoyed
exploing this castle on several visits because it offers so much to
see. There are a 1000 year old chapel, the Scottish national war
memorial, several museums and a few galleries to explore.
