Tantallon
castle
is located on the southeastern coast of Scotland about one hour from
Edinburgh. It is a unique structure because it does not fully
enclose
an inner ward or keep. The castle is situated on a rocky
promontory
that juts out into the sea. The landward side of the promontory
is
protected by a thick curtain wall that is over 100 feet high. The
other three sides of the castle are protected by steep cliffs that drop
off to the sea. Tantallon castle is quite picturesque with the
sea all
around and nearby Bass rock with its lighthouse and large population of
sea birds. The views from the top of the castle wall are
fantastic.
This is one of my favorite castles both to explore and photograph.. |
