||Caerphilly castle is located in southern Wales near the capital city of Cardiff. The castle is a magnificent example of defensive fortification with a combination of moats, drawbridges, and gatehouses to ward off attackers. The mixture of defenses was unique among any of the castles that I have visited. I found the main gatehouse particularly interesting with its combination of portculli, gates, and murder holes. Some of the towers have deteriorated over time, but the ruins are impressive all the same.
