Fishing on Lake Nipissing - Fishing Tips
When should you go?

Fishing Tips

Before you book your vacation on Lake Nipissing, you should ask yourself what kind of fishing that you want to do.  If you want to catch lots of walleye or trophy pike and muskie, then you may want to consider fishing in late May or early June.  This is the time of year when these fish will be in the shallows for the spring spawn.  The fish will be more accessable to anglers that want to fish in the shallow bays near the lodge.  The downside will be that the weather will tend to be cooler and more erratic and the black flies will be in greater numbers.  This  may not be what you want for a family vacation, although it would be fine for a weeklong outing with your fishing buddies.

If you are a more casual angler, like me, then you probably have booked a weeks vacation at the lake during the months of July and August.  You are probably on vacation with your family and hope to spend some quality time with your spouse and kids while fishing, swimming, and enjoying the peaceful surroundings.  Lake Nipissing is teeming with fish of all varieties so there will be no problem in catching great numbers of fish of all varieties if that is your goal.  I will provide you with plenty of tips for catching dozens of fish every day.

If your goal is catching that trophy muskie or pike, or a stringer of walleye, then you will probably have some difficulty until you get a feel for the lake.  Most fishermen regard July and August as the dog days of summer.  The bigger fish and most of the walleye will be out in deeper water where it is cooler and where there are vast schools of baitfish for them to feed on.  Lake Nipissing is no exception to this pattern and it presents a real challenge to anglers because it is so huge.  You may have to travel  miles to find the fish that you seek.
