The sky was stained with red and gold as the sun slowly sank beneath the distant horizon. The darkening sky looked as though it were on fire, bright yellow fading into dark reds and purples. The eastern sky was darker, with navy blue turning into black, as a few early stars glistened in the coming night.
Evelia sat, watching the sunset from her vantage point on the Weyr's heights. Her dark purple scales blended with the evening sky, as did her own sunset-colored wings, folded neatly at her sides.
Evelia was a female spirit dragon, from the Ring of Fire. She sat on the heights alone. She had no human rider, and had never had one. She had not bonded at her hatching, and instead, chosen to come here, to Darkling Dawn Weyr, where she now served as the Weyr's watchdragon.
Evelia's red eyes searched the empty sky as the night grew darker. Hearing a sound behind her, she turned, to see two green dragons behind her. One was of normal shade, and the other lighter, with white speckled hide and wings. Kshatarieth and Akshaeth, the only dragon pair at Darkling Dawn.
Eve' nodded at the two greens in acknowledgement.
Why don't you let us take over, Akshaeth said kindly. Go get some rest, you probably need it.
Her bond, Kshatarieth, nodded in agreement.
Doesn't it get lonely up here all by yourself?
Evelia shrugged. "A little." She admitted.
Perhaps you should consider bonding. Akshaeth suggested.
Evelia hesitated. "Bond...?"
Yeah, you know, like us? Go to a hatching, bond a dragon? 'Rieth said dryly.
'Rieth, be nice. Akshaeth reprimanded her green bond.
Evelia shook her head. "I've never really thought about it. At least, not about bonding another dragon, anyway."
Perhaps you should consider it. Akshaeth suggested. Go on, we'll stay here. Go get some sleep, it's night.
Sure enough, the fiery sunset had disappeared, and been replaced by a dark sky studded with diamond-like stars.
"Thanks, maybe I will." Eve' said as she spread her sunset-colored wings and glided to the Weyr below.

Evelia stood on the Weyr's heights in the bright early morning sunlight. Her deep purple scales glistened in the light. The sky was light blueish-white, with few clouds in the sky. "Thank you. It's my turn to watch the heights now." She said to the two green dragons.
Kshatarieth stood by the far edge with her bond. Without a word, the green dragon spread her wings and took off towards the feeding grounds. Akshaeth paused, turning to look at the spirit dragon.
You might want to go to Lantessama Isle. The flurry green-white dragon said. There are two clutches due to hatch soon there, and they still do not have enough candidates.
Evelia cocked her head. "I haven't said I was going to try bonding yet." She said, somewhat amused.
Akshaeth rumbled in amusement.
Well, why not? You may help a hatchling dragon that otherwise would go unbonded. Like yourself.
Evelia shook her head as the green-white dragoness joined her bond in the feeding grounds. Looking up at the sky, she muttered to herself, "Perhaps I will bond..."
