HORIZON II, INTERACTIVE SITE SPECIFIC WORK,  PLYWOOD AND METAL, 2001

200 GERTRUDE STREET, MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA
Horizon II, was an interactive site   - specific work done at the end at of the residency exhibition at 200 Gertrude Street, Melbourne , Australia.

Responding to the Architecture of the Denton Corker Marshall Associates and surrounded by a sporting nation, I decided to create an experience of diving boards - springing from the floor to raise the participant to a height of two feet in the gallery space.

A deciscion to have two diving boards angled at each other opened up the possibility of solitary experience in the space of relationship, as a dialogue between the two was made possible.

A further dimension to the work was provided by the street - as the gallery had a window frontage, providing a transparent boundary between the closed gallery space inside, and the bustle of traffic, trams and pedestrians outside, onlooking the work.

The three month residency was made possible by the UNESCO Aschberg Artists Bursaries and the host Institution, 200 Gertrude Street incorporating Artists studios, Melbourne, Australia.
