Name: Germain (Ger'in)
Gender/Age: male, 17
Rank/Craft: Weyrbred, Apprentice Smithcrafter (blacksmith), Dragonrider!
Location: Alabaster Weyr
Relatives/Family: none present
Dragon if any: BROWN NERIMENTH from TALOR CLIFF WEYR!
Physical Description: 6'1", 160, muscular and well built, red skin, black hair that is short and kept to just at his neck, slightly curly. Bright brown eyes, his face is lined handsomely and he has a great chin. He usually is found in light clothing which can stand a lot of temperature changes, tank tops and wher hide pants usually. He has a deep but quiet voice and usually says little.
Emotional/Mental Description: always there for someone else, he rarely takes center stage unless there is honor to uphold or a girl in distress. He has a true weak spot for ladies in some kind of danger, be it thread, man or beast. Otherwise there is little weak about him. He takes orders quickly and carries them out as best as he sees fit, usually to good effect.
Skills: he is skilled as a laborer and blacksmith, having worked with the Mine craft as well. He is ill suited for Hold life, as his social skills are lacking. But he can hold his own during a gather or celebration at Alabaster Hold, and his good looks and charming soft voice carry their own weight. He is popular with the young ladies, and it's always possible that he has one or more children on the way at any given time, which he will acknowledge if they are brought to him. He will do his level best to raise any children which come from a dragon's mating flight -- should he impress a suitable dragon to win one!
History: born in the Weyr but fostered for his parents were both riders who returned to their own Weyrs. Since he was strong as a child he was immediately put to work doing more strenuous work than others of his age, and perhaps because of that his education with the local Harpers fell behind. He does have a reasonable education but he rarely needs it.
Notes and Special Information: Germain wants to impress Engell almost more than he wants to Impress a dragon! He knows that if he does gain a strong bronze or brown dragon he could stand a chance at leading a wing or Flight himself, and to do that he wants the blessing and the attention of the Lord Holder. He would settle for the eye of the high ranking girls of the hold as well...
Pets/Hobbies/Posessions: Germain does not keep pets, but he is quite familiar with animals of all types, hunting or riding them particularly. He has few possessions, but those he has he cherishes above all, and keeps them privately in his weyr. He has two small paintings (palm sized) of his birth parents, and has harpers scribe letters to them on occasion.
BACK to Alabaster Folk
On a Search flight, one of the Talor Cliff riders, a woman on a blue (which caused quite a stir around the Hold, believe it!) came to several of Alabaster's young men. One of them was Germain, who Nora found was busily working with the blacksmith. The noise grated against her ears, but she heard in her dragon's mind that this tall, dark skinned man was a good candidate.

"Sirrh!" She called out, and both men, the younger Germain and his Master smithy Fenud, turned their heads to see the woman. "I've come from Talor Cliff. We have eggs in the sands, and Mitanth here has singled you out. Are you willing to come stand for the eggs?"

Fenud began to laugh, guffawing and slapped the younger man on the back. "You'd better do what she says, boy!"

Germain didn't skip a beat. "I must tell Lord
Engell," he said.
"He'll be proud of you," Fenud said, as the rider escorted Germain out.

***
"I will send for the paintings of my parents if it looks like I must remain in Talor Cliff for an extended period of time, so keep my things in order, will you?" He asked of a Hold drudge. Germain asked Nora if he could come back after the hatching, and she told him a reserved yes, but most likely he will spend the year of his dragon's young stage (should he impress, of course) there, and then go back to Alabaster to fly in their Wing.

Before they left the Hold, Nora had one more stop to locate another potential Candidate, that being
Shimimura, a tinker whose weyr was always kept quite dark, according to Germain.

Germain smiled to the folk he left behind, while mounting up on the blue, and could be heard to say, "I will be riding my own dragon when I return!"

No one on the ground doubted him for a moment!
The hatching went quickly, almost too quick! It almost passed the candidates up! Read the full story in the records at Talor Cliff!

Germain proudly strutted off the sands with his new life partner, brown Nerimenth! They found food and water waiting for both of them, just below the weyr's ledge, shaded from the harsh sun of morning. It was still just barely morning, too! Germain hardly thought he'd be so rudely awakened to such a pleasant surprise!

He held the brown's wide face as Nerimenth ate, and said softly, "don't eat so fast, you'll never be able to move at this rate!"

But I hunger so! Why do you think I came out of the shell?

Germain, now Ger'in to his riding compatriots and the recordkeeper, laughed loudly and hugged the young yet voracious dragonet!
