Name: Shimimura (Shim'a)
Gender/Age: male, 18
Rank/Craft: Journeyman Smithcrafter (mechanics), Dragonrider!
Location: Alabaster Hold
Relatives/Family: none present, all alive elsewhere, the youngest son of a 8 child family
Dragon if any:  BLUE DIOATH from TALOR CLIFF WEYR
Physical Description: 5'2", 110, muscular but small build, yellow tan skin, rich black hair that is going to receed from his forehead quickly, but is always kept in a tail and is usually about shoulder length, greeny-yellow eyes. Very oriental features, and has a good grasp on his ancestry. He has a quiet, almost mousey voice. He wears dark clothing, and prefers soft leathers and hides to cloth.
Emotional/Mental Description: Always the listener, Shim is not always a participator and usually must be goaded into action by those around him. Once he does start he has a great time, but he is never the instigator of things. He is a good friend to those he does get close to, and is not afraid of certain things or people the way others might be (he is one of Kalkin's few friends).
Skills: he is able to understand even the most complex or ancient technology, and uses this knowledge to advance Alabaster. He is remarkably talented in picking out voices in a crowd, and can usually repeat conversations back verbatim. He is adept at hunting, but hates messy meat, does enjoy making fish dinners and sushi is a rediscovered art for him.
History: born outside the Hold but not by much, recruited by the smith craft when only about 10 years old. He was always adept at his work, and made Journeyman by the age of 13. He was Searched recently, and looks forward to doing night sweeps.
Notes and Special Information: Shim's eyes are extremely sensitive to light, similar to Kalkin's, but his are much worse. He gets along with darkness well, and loves being in the shadows to watch and listen where people can't find him. He will ride night watch but will have a hard time doing daylight Thread flights unless someone makes him some good sunglasses or goggles.
Pets/Hobbies/Posessions: Shim has no pets, though he is good with watch-whers, and he is also pretty sensitive to dragons speech already. As a hobby, sort of, he has taken to being present when Kalkin is "working" on a subject.
BACK to Alabaster Folk
"Searched? Me?" Shim shook his head, but the woman standing in the doorway to the tinkers' weyr nodded her own.

"You." She thumbed to the great blue dragon behind her. "Mitanth says so. And so I must believe him. Don't you believe him?" She smiles a bit, sure of what his answer must be.

He stands for a moment, numbly. "I ... is that
Germain?"

The dark skinned man waves from around Nora's form, and leans into the weyr as well. Dark as usual, because of Shim's unusually strong night-vision, Germain squinted into the weyr.

"I was searched too. Lord
Engell will be pleased, won't he? If two riders come back from Talor Cliff?"

Shimimura sighed, and smiled. "Ok ok... you win! You're right. But... There are some things I must work on before I get there. If that's all right?"

"You can have someone else fly you out," Nora said, "but you must be there soon."

"I will be," Shim said, with confidence. "I will see you on the sands, Germain."

The taller man saluted with his fingers against his forehead, and turned with Nora, to head to the Weyr.

Shimimura sat against the side of his work bench. "Searched?"

Finally, with a grin growing across his lips, he said, "Searched!" And finished up his work.
Shimimura woke with a start, as someone banged on every candidate's door. He grumbled... Never a morning person!

But... The eggs were
hatching! How marvelous was THAT?!

With the others he sprinted down to the hatching sands, and though it was yet early the morning sun hurt his eyes so that he had a poor view of anything let alone the sands or dragons.

In fact, so poor a view that he nearly missed his own dragon coming for him!

The little Blue came to him, squinting his eyes against the light so foreign to both of them. He had already scanned the girls, there were some likely candidates there, but not for him!

With a croon, the dragon butted Shim's leg and bespoke.

I cannot see very well outside my egg, my friend... My name is Dioath. Can we find some shade? I wish I could crawl back into the shell!

"Dioath! You don't like the sun much either? Well, let's go inside then!"

Shim'a left the others without pretext. He could barely see. When he and the blue finally entered the blissful shade of the Weyr, he could see the cloud haze and sky colors on his lovely dragon. "We will fly at night," Shim'a said, "because others cannot!"
