Support for Abolishing Electoral College Continues to Grow

As the presidential election impasse continues, the popular movement to replace the Electoral College with direct elections is picking up steam. Anxious citizens protested in major cities across the country today, demanding not only a resolution to the current crisis but also fundamental reforms to America's electoral process. Public opinion polls indicate that a vast majority of Americans support abolishing the Electoral College and replacing it with direct presidential elections.

CTD is circulating a petition, available online, pressuring Congress to initiate a constitutional amendment to replace the Electoral College with direct presidential elections. The petition also urges Congress to establish a system of instant run-off voting to insure that no presidential candidate wins without a majority of the popular vote.

In addition, the list of prominent public interest organizations, respected political leaders, and newspapers that endorse Electoral College abolition is expanding daily. Following is a brief selection of organizations, individuals, and newspapers that support direct elections instead of the Electoral College. If you think we should add to this list, please fill out our contact form.
