The vast majority of Americans believe that the popular vote should determine the President. In the 2000 election, however, the Electoral College is expected to overrule the popular vote, electing George W. Bush by a vote of 271-267 even though Al Gore received over 500,000 more votes nationally than Bush (more than margins of victory in 1960 and 1968). VoteWithAmerica.com encourages you to make your voice heard by calling, e-mailing, or writing to the electors to ask that they vote with America and elect Gore. We have obtained contact information for 172 electors in 18 states that voted Republican in this election. Most of the targeted states do not legally require their electors to vote for their party's official candidate, meaning that each elector is free to put patriotism above partisanship. When contacting electors, remember to be courteous and to respect their opinions and decisions. This site also provides background information on the Electoral College, a word about privacy concerns regarding the electors, and a media center. We believe that this campaign could help sow the seeds for abolition of the Electoral College. Citizens for True Democracy, founded in 1998 to improve political participation via electoral reform, is a non-partisan public interest organization based in Claremont, California. | |||

To make it easier for you to write letters to the electors, we have prepared downloadable address labels for all electors and a pre-written letter (formatted for MS Word mail-merge) to send to the electors. The labels and the letter are formatted for Microsoft Word. If you do not use MS Word, you can copy and paste CTD's sample letter, which is below.
