TV Guide - David Letterman & Warren Zevon Cheer
CHEERS to an encore performance. Singer-songwriter Warren Zevon has been a guest on CBS's Late Show with David Letterman many times, even subbing for bandleader Paul Shaffer on occasion. But his most recent visit was something special. Several months ago, Zevon--best known for his quirky 1978 hit "Werewolves of London" and loved by fans (Letterman included) for his soulfully honest songwriting--disclosed his terminal lung cancer. With no advance fanfare or hype, Late Show devoted its entire October 30 episode to Zevon. No other guests, just a long, touching and, yes, funny conversation between Zevon and Letterman, on everything from music to mortality. Truly a show to remember.
