Calvinism is making a bit of a resurgence these days on Baptist college campuses. DBU is a prime example. If you live on campus you've probably noticed the debates over Calvinism. The discussions usually take place in the cafeteria. They can be vicious .

Now the last thing the Snipe wants to do is promote either side of the debate. But we do want to help people understand Calvinism, since tremendous misconceptions of it are promoted by both Calvinists and non-Calvinists. Maybe the most important thing to understand about Calvinism is the Calvinist notion of free will.

Calvinists don't deny free will. They just describe it differently. According to Calvinism, free will is not being able to do one of two different things; it's being able to do what you want to do .

Now a basic choice would be between two things: right and wrong. So (thinking like a Calvinist) if your heart were so pure that you only wanted to do what's right, then you would freely choose to do what's right even though that was the only choice.
