It is an absolute truth that some truths are subjective.

Early on January 14, 2006-New essay up by Megan Routh in, well, the essay section. But it's also linked here .

The Problem With Chapel

QUOTE OF THE (insert amount of time equal to now minus when we posted this):

"For contemplation he and valour formed, for softness shee, and sweet attractive grace."

Aristotle's view of women was low, but Milton's view was merely narrow. It wasn't a bit low; if anything, his view of women was higher than his view of men: for which does the poet value more highly, logic or beauty?

INTENTIONAL ERROR ON MAHLER CLOCK TOWER!

Ladies and gentlemen, there is an ERROR on the Mahler clock tower! We have IIII instead of IV for the number FOUR! We figured we'd rather err along with Independence Hall up in Philadelphia than get it right. I think that was rather a good decision. (Markie)

MARV KNOX OF BAPTIST STANDARD HAS GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY

So far, I think he's been squandering it. That's the way I see it. I don't think he's a bad guy. I do think he's confused, and hasn't made his case very well. --Mark J. Boone

HOW DARE WE

I never really disliked DBU; this is common misconception. At most I disliked 50% of DBU because I've always adored profs like Matos, Shelton, Nkhoma, Naugle, Trammel, Kappelman, Bell, McCollister, Williams, Johnson, etc., along with Math Lab, Writing Center, every good-smelling book in the library; libraries are glorious things; praise the Lord for libraries . . . . Anyways, since chapel Wed. 16th, I have felt that I can no longer stand against the largest example of the (50%-max) that I didn't like, chapel. I support chapel as of last Wednesday, though I wouldn't recommend anything but ceaseless vigilance against bad hermeneutics, lack of Scripture, bad theology in chapel, etc. So since Wednesday last week, we're down to maybe 30% of DBU I don't like by now, and that's a liberal estimate; 20% might be closer.

Three large portions of that remaining percentage are these. FIRST, the students. How dare we students be talking while John Turner of Glowing Heart is reciting Scripture for us? That is utterly despicable and pathetic and immature, blah, blah, blah. Utter disrespect for Scripture; also rude to Mr. Turner who (time was) used to give us more Scripture than anyone else in chapel.

SECOND and THIRD are the ongoing apparent shift of DBU towards being 'moderate' (eg, chicks speaking in chapel; is this compatible with inerrancy? My answer pending the completion of my Greek paper) and the communistic conformity enforced upon students every now and then in various circumstances. Both of these factors were presumably in play in a recent event of which I have heard. The event is an atrocity. It is a disgrace. I can't say what it is at this point (the best stories never really made it onto Snipe anyways). But hopefully the following statement will get to the relevant members of the administration who would know about what I'm talking: there was a time when "freedom of the believer" meant that a Christian could be 'moderate.' Now a student is required to be 'moderate' at DBU.

I sincerely hope this is my last post. I'm trying to transition out of this annoying website. oocities.com/markboonejesusfreak is being built slowly.

CALL FOR REPENTANCE

"Brant Dally," or something like that, sent in a splendid little poem written against the overly cynical amongst us. Those you are angry at DBU would do well to read it. Click on the Essays section on the left to get to it.

FORGIVE MARK BOONE FOR BOASTING,

. . . but click here to see documented evidence of the fact that DBU is right up there with Duke, Bucknell, and Temple, although they have a couple of errors we don't have. Oh, did I mention that Harvard and U C Berkeley suck?

GOD BLESS DENISON

Future Snipe site authors should be careful spell Dr. Denison's name correctly; I fear I usually leave out a consonant, but I don't care about this site anymore. I'm inches away from quitting altogether. Let me say that a Barthian (if Denison really is Barthian) who memorizes chapters is a better and wiser Christian than any inerrantist who doesn't read the Bible. Denison will do, and is doing, much more for the kingdom of God than many of us inerrantists who don't even read. Thank God for Jim Denison.

(I maintain that inerrancy is perfectly reasonable; that non-inerrancy is a dangerous position; and that Marv Knox is a total hippie in his views of church and of state.)
