Mark Boone Responds to Head Snipe's Recent Comments

My colleague HS recently drew attention to something that's only been alluded to so far. I think there was an allusion in the Passion for Truth essay. In that essay, or somewhere else, the HS said something along the lines of there being two DBU's. I don't know about that, but there certainly is a sort of . . . tension between things here. Most notably there are the tensions between (ONE) the old-school conservative inerrantists who say that Scripture is inerrant and the new-Barth-school that says that Scripture is not 'inerrant' though it is 'trustworthy . . .

. . . and (TWO) the tension between Glowing Heart is studying the notion of a Christian worldview.

Another example is more thorny. Maybe it's something about control, and maybe it's something . . . political. Maybe it's just a need we feel to keep things safe, and . . . and in the status quo . . . Maybe it's not dualism. But the fact is that there is this attitude going around that Christians are supposed to focus on only certain sorts of ministry, as if the entire universe were not the Christian's mission field. Maybe we're just trying to not be Controversial.

In any case, it is clear that dualism is no good reason for this. The fact is, the Christians are required to consider everything created by God as something that was once good and should be made good again. Unfortunately this requires us to go into certain things that are not always comfortable. But this is our duty.

But is it our duty, that is, is it the duty of DBU as a Baptist university to do everything Christians are supposed to do? Not necessarily so; we Christians here specialize in Christian education. Maybe we don't need to focus on the rest of it. At least not as an institution. BUT . . .

But 'we' is such a funny term. DBU people should absolutely not oppose going into all the spheres of the world, and DBU people should certainly be going into all of them. Certainly the students should, after they graduate. The rest of us who are still here, now, should we go into all the spheres of the world right now, while we're still students? I don't see why not.

All that remains is to make a distinction. Make a distinction between who precisely does what precisely in the capacity of what. My only request to those who seem to be on the other side of the tension (I'm on the side of the Naugle theology) to not use dualism as a reason to not be controversial. Focus on making a distinction.

Incidentally, Talk Like a Pirate Day (talklikeapirate.com) is September 19th. Arrr.
