Welcome to the homepage for DP’s Selective Breeding Project! I’ve toyed with selective breeding projects o’er the years but I’ve always given up because frankly, they’re a lot of work. But what seems a lot of work to one person would not be a lot of work to a large group of people. Which is why I’m asking for all of your help.
Lately people have been focusing on hexing and sort of pushing breeding and selective breeding projects to the wayside. I personally have always enjoyed working with the original breeds and I want breeding to make a comeback in the PC.
This Selective Breeding Project is designed to include as many PCers as want to participate. Basically, everyone will breed a few petz, send me their pictures, I’ll look for trends and post some pictures here, and we’ll decide which traits we want to continue breeding into the next generations. It’s just like a normal selective breeding project, but on a much larger scale. And at the end, we will have a new, non-hexed and non-inbred selective breed all our own.
The first step is to get people involved. Why should you join? First of all, it’s not very time consuming. Each person would only have to breed about 10-20 petz per two weeks or so, which is nothing, especially if you’re a PetzA user. Secondly, it’s a great way to meet new people and get involved in the PC. Thirdly, I will post all members here, so you get some site exposure. Lastly, you just should because it’s a rockin’ good time.
Once we have a decently strong membership, we’ll decide what breeds we want to start with and what traits we’ll try to achieve in our breed. Do we want to breed catz or dogz? What do we want to breed? Miniature dalmatians? Poof-tailed tabbies? Alley-marked meezers? Fuzzy bulldogs? We’ll decide together where we’re going to start.
As soon as we have an idea for a breed, I will send out to members and also post here rules for breeding to avoid inbreeding in our lines. The general idea is that after everyone has bred about 10-20 (or more, if you have time) second generation petz, everyone will send me pictures of them as adults. I will look for trends in what we have and post a few pictures of possible traits we can pursue here. The members of the group will vote, and then I’ll redistribute the petz that we’ll use for the third generation. Everyone will be able to keep their own “reject petz.” We’ll repeat until we have a 10-12 generation, true-breeding selective breed.
What we need now are members and ideas. The only restriction is that all breeding must be done in Petz 3/4, since that is the program I have. If you want to be a member and/or you have an idea for a selective breed, by all means, e-mail me at deviantpetz@yahoo.com.
When this project gets off the ground, I’ll post more information on selective breeding in general and our project specifically here, as well as member info and project progress. If everyone pitches in a little bit, we’ll have a full selective breed in no time!
