Albany Zen Buddhist Sitting Group (also known as Kinpu-an) is a lay practice center which is affiliated with Zen Mountain Monastery (www.zen-mtn.org) and is part of the Society of Mountains and Rivers. The mission of the group is to provide a space for both residents and people who live in the Albany area to explore Zen practice in the midst of their everyday lives. Residents make a commitment to maintain as much of the sitting schedule as their other responsibilities allow and to participate in running and taking care of the center.
For non-residents, Kinpu-an offers a schedule of daily zazen sittings, half or full day zazenkai sittings one Saturday each month, and use of a library of books, audio and video tapes. The center is committed to lay practice and is open to the ideas and suggestions of the sangha, the community of practitioners.
Daily Schedule: Mornings M-F, 6 - 7 am; Evenings Tues and Thurs, 7:15 pm - 8:45 (tea and cookies served on Tuesday evenings) Beginning instruction is offered on a monthly basis.
