Shambhala Meditation Group of Albany is associated with Shambhala International (www.shambhala.org), a worldwide association of over 100 centers that provide meditation instruction classes and programs in the Tibetan Buddhist and Shambhala traditions. Shambhala was founded by Chögyam Trungpa, Rinpoche and is currently under the direction of his son and spiritual heir, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.


Information for Newcomers

We welcome you to join us for programs and events we have scheduled throughout the year. On Thursday evenings at Ricketts Hall at Russell Sage College in Troy (located on Congress Street between 1st and 2nd Street). Meetings are from 7 -8:00 PM. An hour of sitting meditation practice is followed by informal discussion. Approximately once a month we meet for an all day meditation intensive called a nyinthun. Nyinthuns alternate sitting and walking meditation periods. We offer meditation instruction free of charge as well as classes and special events such as a lunar New Year celebration, Family Days on the Solstice and Equinox, and Vaishaka, the observation of the Buddha's birth, enlightenment, and passing into Nirvana.
