Here are just a few of the babies we here at KBCBR have raised. Many of them have been released and we are always getting new babies in. You can see more pitures by clicking the link at the end of this page. I have recieved many emails from wonderful people all over the USA who have found babies who have fallen from there nest and need to know what to do. The most important thing is to make certain that the bird has been deserted by its parents. The links above will help you to determine if baby needs help or not. First things first...anytime you handle a wild bird ALWAYS wash well after handling it. If you have pet birds use every precaution possible to make sure your pet is not exposed to the wild bird. If you must use items that are normally used for your pet bird (ex. cage, dishes, etc.) wash them with very warm soapy bleach water and allow items to dry in the sun before allowing your pet access to them again. Now lets get down to what you are needing to know.. WHAT DO I DO WITH THIS THING? If it is young without feathers you need to keep it warm. A heating pad or hot water bottle works well. (Set heating pad on low with a small towel between pad and bed.) For a quick fix you can use dog or cat food soaked in hot water untill a mush has formed. Or you may use beef flavored baby food. Once you can get to a local pet shop it is a good idea to purchase a canister of hand feeding formula for birds. (same stuff used for handraising pet birds) This will provide nutrients that baby needs. The directions are very easy. You simply mix with warm water. For wild birds I also mix in a little of the baby food into the mixture. Eye droppers are a great feeding tool. Start with small amounts untill you are aware of how much baby can handle. Usually the younger the bird the thinner you want to make the mixture. With younger birds you should feed about every 15 minutes. Older birds about every 30. You will not need to feed baby at night except with new hatchlings you should feed untill about 10 or 11 pm. Resume early in the morning. There is no need to offer water untill they are old enough to start pecking. The water in the mixture is sufficiant For more detailed info click here........................................For more bird pictures click here detailed bird care more wild bird pics
