Hihi Minna!
DistantDawn here once again. Well, for now, we've decided on a small campaign idea.
The setting is Kamen Apaato- The Mask Apartments Complex. Characters can either be renting a room for a short time, or they can be long term residents. (And of course, there are limitless other places you can RP outside Kamen).
Although Kamen appears to be an ordinary apartment complex, there's a dark secret hidden within it's walls- there are rumors of strange occurrences and supernatural creatures walking the hallways at night. Several unexplained deaths have already occurred, but the nature of the murders have left the police baffled due to the horrific nature of the crimes. In fact, police are beginning to have their doubts if the culprit is human at all...
This is, of course, on top of any baddies your chara may have following/him or her around. ^~ (Remember that you're in charge of RPing them, too)
We figured this would be good since only a few people ever seem to be on at a time, and this way people can just mill around and go in and out of their rooms at will- making little sub-plots with whoever's instead of worrying about keeping continuity with a long campaign
Since I'm not online that much, Kyou has been nice enough to be the board moderator and has also taken charge of the profiles page. He's got a sheet format up, which will be posted below.
Well, before I go any further- there are a couple things to cover if any real RPing starts going down.
First, get a pretty good idea of your character- RPing is so much more fun when the players are believable. So put together a little profile and have a good idea of what your personality and abilities are.
The next bit has to do with conflict, particularly fighting. A lot of uneeded drama goes down all the time on Gaia when it comes to RP fights, and it's so easy to avoid. Remember that there are two people involved and that in reality, you're working together to make a good scene. Give and take and adhere to some basic RP Rules. A good list of things to avoid doing can be found here.
Swearing is allowed, please bracket any out of character comments with (ooc:), and give other players a chance to respond before entering more text (the message allows for 1000 characters per post...that should be enough to say most of what you want to say at a shot. ^~)
If you'd like more information about RP etiquette and fighting, this site on Gaia has enough reading to keep you busy for quite awhile ^~.
That's all for me! Have fun ^^V
Yo- This is Kyou, and I'm currently the moderator for the RP Board. This is an open RP and anyone and everyone is welcome to join.
If you're new to the boards, you can hop in whenever you want. If you plan on sticking around, you'll need to get on the Profiles Page.
Here's how:
First, make an avatar of your character on (The Candybar Doll Maker
Either A) save the picture to your computer & send it as an attachment, or B) highlight the address of the new screen that pops up when you click "Save Doll", copy it, and paste it into an e-mail.
Fill out the profile below then send it either to Dawn or me.
Name:
Height:
Eye Color:
Hair Color:
Special Abilities:
Weapons/Accessories:
Background:
I'll set it up on the profiles page so people can have and idea of the characters in play.
Now moving along, Dawn is not big on rules...but I am. If you read her happy little blurb up there, you probably got a vague idea of the way the board should run, but I'm going to flesh it out in more concrete terms.
All out of character content should be tagged with either (ooc: text) or ((text)).
All thoughts should be tagged with o0(text)
Anything a character says should be tagged "text"
Let people know when you come on and try to give some warning before you log off. If possible, get your character out of a scene before leaving.
Give everyone a chance to talk, if someone is lagging- wait for them to get in a post before moving on.
When posting, take your time and be descriptive- people should wait for you.
Be aware of the RP's flow- don't deliberately try to direct it the way you want to go if a good scene is already going on. If things are going slowly- redirect away.
Try to involve all the characters online whenever possible. If your character is being left out, feel free to continue posting something about what you're doing until people notice you, or go make your own scene with an NPC.
When involved in a fight scene/battle take turns. Make one post and wait for the next person to make a post. An RP is not a race, don't make it one.
When fighting, you can execute an attack, but never actually post that you hit someone- use phrases like "struck out at" "fired energy towards" etc. If you post that "I hit you in the jaw." That's an auto-hit and it pisses people off. If you want to do a throw or something that requires you to move them, let them know ahead of time ooc, and if you're in the position to do it, they'll normally give you the go ahead to puppet them.
Be specific when posting attacks- let the other player know how your body is positioned and where you're aiming. If you're not sure about your opponent's attack or need to ask a question about what you can or can't do, ask them ooc. They should answer you.
When fighting- take occasional hits. God-modders suck. You don't have to go down every ten seconds, but know when you're in a pinch and respond accordingly.
When involved in a battle, be aware of distance and power. The more posts and description you have prepping an attack, the more powerful that attack is.
If you have some ability that gives you an advantage, you can let the other player know by posting (+ whatever the advantage is). For example. "Kyou looks around the graveyard- all his senses tingling with anticipation as he scans for any source of movement (+ready)" In this situation, Kyou is already anticipating an attack, so his opponent should be aware that surprise tactics won't be as effective.
Don't flame each other. I know I have a temper, but on the boards, even I try to keep it under control. Play nice with the other RPers- especially people who are trying to figure things out.
That's about all I can think of right now. It's okay if you forget some of these from time to time (for the love of God people, don't start flame wars because someone forgets a few of the rules. Remind them and move on.) but stick with them as best you can.
