Court
With the dawning of a new day, the Shillian scientist
had decided to leave the research of the artefacts
obtained during their latest mission for a little
while. The truth of the matter had been that the head
of the Science Department of the USS ANUBIS had been
more than ready and willing to continue, but since she
still had not been able to speak to Lieutenant Luke
Onison about the item that according to Ensign Summers
he had in his possession, the scientist had been
forced to wait. All of her work and research done by
the Shillian had been going in a circle for the last
little while, pointing to the missing piece that might
or might not been her reach. Although the Chief
Science Officer knew that there had been the chance
that the item spoken about by the Assistant Chief
Medical Officer had not been the one desired, Maya
still hoped and dreamed of the secrets that the
analysis of the missing third part of the mystical
artefact would reveal.
"Will you stop thinking about that Mind Stone for one
second," the Chief of Operations said out of
desperation, recognising the vacant expression on the
features of the Shillian woman for what it was. As
much as the scientist had not been anywhere close to
anything scientific, it had not stopped her thoughts
from venturing back to the ANUBIS and the science lab
where the two items she had been working on had been
left behind. "You have not even given that piece of
chocolate cheese cake you ordered a simple glance
since it was brought to the table. I would hate to
think that you ordered it for nothing, you seemed keen
in enjoying your favourite dish not all that long
ago."
The Shillian scientist turned to look at the woman who
had been speaking to her before lowering her eyes to
the small plate that had been brought and placed
before her. The Chief Science Officer had been so
involved in her thoughts that she had not noticed that
the food she had ordered had been fetched and
delivered, presented to her in an exquisite manner
that seemed to completely contradict the atmosphere
that surrounded the base, those working in it and the
ship operating from it.
"I'm sorry," the scientist said, "I just cannot stop
thinking about Lieutenant Onison and the possibility
that he has the third and last piece of the Mind Stone
either on him or somewhere in his quarters. I mean it
would be nice if he did have the artefact in his
possession but at least knowing if he did or did not
have it would at least allow me to stop thinking about
the Yal-Tonil, all of the legends and stories written
about it and the powers that are said to be given to
the holder of the artefact when it is all put
together. Without all of that bouncing inside my head
I would actually have the chance to rest and relax a
little."
Serenna chuckled as she took a sip from her Romulan
Tea, a beverage that she had specifically ordered to
be non-replicated, a demand that had in no way
surprised the crewman who had come to the table to
take the order. "Maya, the day you actually *stop*
working or thinking about something scientific for
more than a couple of seconds at a time will be the
day that I give in my resignation as a Starfleet
officer and head to a terra forming colony on the
outer boundaries of known space."
The suggestion that the hybrid would give up her rank
and position within Starfleet took the Shillian
scientist by complete surprise, the vision of the
hybrid taking part of some terra forming expedition
just striking the scientist as being wrong in so many
ways. As much as the Chief Science Officer knew that
Serenna had said these words in jest, the scientist
had still found it almost impossible to imagine the
Chief of Operations in anything other than the role
she had seemed perfectly made for. "You would never
leave Starfleet."
"I rest my case," the half Human, half Romulan woman
said, taking another sip from the delicate cup that
hung between her fingers.
"Morning ladies," Commander Rikar said, strolling over
to the table where the Chief of Operations and Chief
Science Officer had been sitting at, the hand of her
daughter firmly encased in her own. "Have either one
of you seen James? The computer is either unwilling
to give me his location or he has found a way to stay
hidden. The onboard computer on the ANUBIS reported
that he had left disembarked early in the morning but
the logs of NEW ALEXANDRIA do not show him stepping
off the ship."
"The Captain could have had a meeting with Admiral
Koneki," the Chief of Operations said, using her
knowing and background in both Operations and Security
to formulate a hypothesis. "It would have been easy
for the Admiral to have any and all traces of the
whereabouts of the Captain removed from the logs."
"Why would Admiral Koneki want to keep a meeting
secret?" The Shillian scientist asked, drawing a grin
from both of the other two women who found the
innocence of the question refreshing.
"In any case," the Commander said after a short pause,
"if either one of you do see James, please let him
know that I am looking for him. I need to ask him a
question."
Experience and training in the fields of Security,
Operations and Intel had made it easy for the Chief of
Operations to figure out what the question mentioned
by the First Officer had been about. The same could
not be said for the Shillian scientist who seemed
absolutely lost as to understanding what the Executive
Officer could have wanted to ask the Captain.
"We will relay the message," Serenna said, cutting off
the Shillian before she could ask about the details of
the question. The piercing glare that the Operations
Officer shot at the Chief Science Officer insured that
Maya remained silent, at least for as long as
Commander Rikar had been within earshot.
