Stardate: 60309.1010
Setting: USS ANUBIS, Bridge
While supervising a ship-wide power recalibration initiated by Lt. T'Reni, the Romulan/Terran hybrid had been keeping track of the location of certain officers currently onboard the ANUBIS. Tracking personnel in this manner was normally the job of the Sec/Tac officer, but since that station had not been manned at that moment, the COO took on the task in order to satisfy her professional curiosity.
Following the movements of Lt. Fairborn, the NEW ALEXANDRIA's Robotics Engineer, had not been all that complicated since the Oltharian registered on internal sensors with the intensity of three normal men. Walking from the umbilical connection to the quarters of Lt. Dawson and back again had made tracking the Oltharian that much easier.
Keeping track of the movements of Lt. Onison on the other hand had proven to be far more difficult as the man seemed to have the uncanny ability of finding areas inside the ANUBIS where the sensor grid had been either disrupted because of the power recalibration or because something else had been there to temporarily interfere with the readings. Bouncing from one deck to another had also made the task of following Luke Onison's actions a more demanding task than the Romulan/Terran hybrid had expected it to be.
Having been informed of the entrance of a new officer on board the ANUBIS, the COO's attention was momentarily diverted so that she could identify the new arrival as being Capt. Simmons. Having turned over the bridge and control of the ship to the Romulan/Terran hybrid when he had left, the Ops officer had been happy to see the CO returning, not that she minded all that much being in command. Returning her attention to the internal sensors, the former Sec/Tac officer was less than happy to find that the man she had been following had once again found an area not covered by the internal sensors.
Being of a naturally suspicious nature, the Romulan/Terran hybrid could not help but wonder how and why Lt. Onison had seemed to select areas of the ship currently being worked on for his aimless trek. Scanning the systems that had access panels in those areas had revealed nothing, but still the COO did not like this repeated vanishing and reappearing act the man had been performing since the morning had begun.
Looking intensely at her instruments for the return of the vanishing officer, the Romulan/Terran hybrid did not greet the CO as he returned to the bridge, something that Capt. Simmons was quick to notice. "Is there a problem?"
Waiting for the sensor image of Lt. Onison to reappear, the COO delayed her reply allowing the CO to make his way from the turbolift to the operations station. Looking over the shoulder of the Romulan/Terran hybrid, Capt. Simmons saw the indicator return to the screen although he had no idea as to what he had just witnessed. "We seem to be having localized problems with the internal sensors."
Giving the COO a half grin, the CO suspected that this had not been the reason why the Romulan/Terran hybrid had seemed to involved when he had returned to the bridge. "That could be easily explained by the power recalibration that Lt. T'Reni is conducting."
Knowing that the captain was right, the Romulan/Terran hybrid was obliged to explain her suspicions further even though she had no proof to offer to the ANUBIS' CO. "It's Lt. Onison, he seems to know exactly where and when the internal sensor grid will be offline. I have not found any signs of tempering of any sort, but after the third occurrence of this I began to wonder as to the actual coincidence of this."
Still feeling a certain amount of numbness from his having seen the ILO in the state that she had been, the CO took a while to assimilate the information provided to him by the Romulan/Terran hybrid. "Lt. Onison was instrumental in the rescue of Ensign Summers, provided Lt. Maya with what he believed to have been the Mind Stone *and* is a guest of Admiral Koneki, therefore he should be beyond any suspicions."
Nodding her understanding, the Romulan/Terran hybrid returned her attention to her instruments thinking that maybe she had been a little too paranoid about the man and his disappearing from the internal sensors. Working on the recalibration of power throughout the ship had been more than enough reason to explain the problems with the sensors, and it had been only because of her natural inability to trust new people that the COO had immediately figured that Lt. Onison had been up to no good.
Turning to face the CO to offer her apologies for having been overly suspicious, the Romulan/Terran hybrid was cut short by Capt. Simmons, "That said, Lt. Onison may be beyond suspicion on board the base, but on my ship that's another story. Please continue to keep track of his movements while I go speak with Cmdr. Rikar. You have the bridge."
Seeing that she had not been the only one to not completely trust the man, the Romulan/Terran hybrid returned to her instruments glad to see that her actions had not been as paranoid as she had believed them to be. Maybe in time the COO and the rest of the senior staff would look back on this day and laugh, but the Ops Officer doubted that Luke Onison, as charming as he was, would find it amusing that CO had shared in this distrust.
