Setting: USS ANUBIS, Bridge
The questions asked by the Executive Officer kept
repeating in the head of the scientist, making the
Shillian woman reconsider the answer that had been
given. It had been nice to see Commander Rikar
genuinely concerned for her well being, but the Chief
Science Officer thought it to be a little over doing
it. Unlike the Chief Medical Officer who had been
abducted, restrained and even possibly tortured, or
the Counsellor who had been tied down by a member of
her own team, the Shillian had suffered from nothing
more than an over active natural defence system that
had been unleashed when Zulot and T'Preel had knocked
her down during their escape.
It was true that the cellular attack of the cosmetic
alterations that had been made on her had taken a
great deal of energy leaving the Shillian woman
feeling weak, but that had in no way meant that the
Chief Science Officer had not been ready to perform
her duties or that she should be the focus of the
concerns of anyone. The impact that had sent her
flying to the ground had been brutal, but nothing that
the expert hands of Ensign Summers had not been able
to remedy within minutes. No, if anyone should be the
focal point of concerns it should definitively not be
the Shillian but rather Lea who had suffered the most
during their last mission.
As the Chief Science Officer observed the results of
her long-range scans of the nearby nebula scroll on
her monitor, the scientist thought of another person
who had gone through an exceptional amount of personal
difficulties during the mission to the TANGIERS
ORBITAL. Lieutenant Dawson had, in addition to
learning that his younger brother had perished in the
line of duty, been faced with having to deal with the
two individuals directly responsible for the death of
Jordan, all of this while the Chief Engineering
Officer had to pretend to be someone else. This,
added to his responsibilities to the rest of the crew
and the mission, had likely made the circumstances
unbearable to the engineer, a situation that the Chief
Science Officer did not envy in the least and thought
warranted that some, if not a great deal of concern,
be directed towards him.
"Are you finished with your scans?" The Marine Command
Officer, Second Lieutenant Pravat, asked, sounding a
little irate as he did so, the Shillian not having
heard the same question having been presented to her
the previous two times before.
"Scan?" The Shillian replied, her thoughts still
locked on the situation that had surrounded the Chief
Medical and Chief Engineering Officers.
"Yes, your scans of the nebula?" The Enaran said,
pointing to the monitor the Shillian had looked at
only moments before. "You have monopolised all of the
external sensors for your scans," the Marine said
clearly annoyed by the situation.
"I'm sorry," the Shillian quickly replied, looking
down to see that the exact same scan had been repeated
five times using every lateral sensors present on the
starboard side of the ANUBIS. "I did not realise that
I had been so distracted that I used all of the
sensors for this scan, I mean if I had known that you
needed the sensors I would have stopped my research on
the nebula since it was nothing really important. I
noticed that we would be passing near it and thought
that it would be a good time to gather more
information on it since the ANUBIS is not exactly the
type of ship that goes out of its way to perform
scientific scans. Thanking of which, why do *you*
need the sensors? Are you developing an interest in
pure research? It may not come in handy in the middle
of a firefight, but I think that it would do you a
great deal of good and open your mind to a universe of
possibilities."
"Stop!" The Enaran politely said raising one hand to
add emphasis to his word. Pravat knew that he should
have gone directly to Serenna, but he had wanted to
take this opportunity to speak with Maya, a decision
which he now regretted. "I don't need the sensors,
what I do need though is the computer resources that
your repeated scans have been using. I need to run
some training scenarios in the holodecks for me and my
troops, and thanks to those scans the computer was
running the simulation too slowly to make the exercise
useful."
"I am sorry," the Shillian repeated, while watching
the Marine make a rushed exit, almost colliding with
Lt. Cmdr. Enaii as she stepped on the bridge, the ILO
already looking less than impressed with whatever
reason had brought her to the command deck of the
ANUBIS.
