Setting: USS ANUBIS, Bridge
Hearing the announcement made by their former CO, and witnessing the transfer of command codes had confirmed what the Romulan/Terran hybrid had suspected in the back of her mind since the end of their last mission. Using her knowledge of the inner workings of the Tal'Shiar and other Intel agencies such as SFI, the COO had predicted, in a matter of speaking and certainly not openly to others, that something would happen following their failed mission, but never had the hybrid expected this.
Seeing Commodore Simmons step off the bridge leaving behind *Captain* Rikar had been a scene that triggered many mixed reactions from those present. Trying to understand the full significance of what had happened while their new CO was off the bridge privately speaking to Lt. Dawson, many of the members of the bridge staff looked at each other in silence.
Breaking the deafening quietness that had been disrupted only by the background noise of the computer and working stations, the CSciO made a comment that in a way reflected what everyone should have been thinking. "It's not like we are losing a CO, I mean we are but we will still be seeing the Captain, I mean the Commodore, around when we are here at NEW ALEXANDRIA. We should be happy and I think that Commander, I mean Captain Rikar is the best person to take over. She knows the crew and we in turn know her. There is no reason for us to be anything but happy and I think that these changes could prove to be good for the ship as a whole, well maybe not all of those changes, I mean it would have been nice if David had not decided to leave us., and there is still the question of who will be taking over the XO position."
Nodding their agreement to what the CSciO had said, many shared the Shillian's mixed emotions as to what had taken place. Returning to the bridge, the captain sent everyone back to work without as much as saying a single word, the result of her discussion with the engineer remaining between him and her.
Working on the departure preparations for the ANUBIS, the Romulan/Terran hybrid was interrupted by a hand gently landing on her shoulder and after following it back to the woman it belonged to, the COO left her station having been asked to follow the ship's new CO.
Following the ANUBIS' new captain into the ready room, the Romulan/Terran hybrid silently reviewed in her mind what she had learned about the situation of the MERCURY's crew, thinking that this meeting would deal with that issue. Thinking that they had little time for anything else, it had made sense to limit all discussions to topics relevant to the upcoming mission.

Setting: CO's Ready Room
Walking into the room the two women stopped in the middle, the CO appearing unwilling to take the seat that was now rightfully hers and instead choosing to perform her second official duty standing. "I wanted to speak with you about your status on the ship. With my having become CO, it leaves the position of XO open, at least for the moment. This is a situation that I hope we will be able to resolve by the end of this meeting."
Looking at the CO, the COO understood where this was going. As the ANUBIS' 2nd Officer, the position of XO would by default be offered to her before anyone else, a change of responsability that the Romulan/Terran hybrid had every right to accept or refuse. Thinking back to her move from Sec/Tac to the COO position, the Ops officer could only begin to imagine the sort of trials she would have to face if she accepted this. Adding to the stress of this situation had been the lack of time which only pressured the hybrid to reach a decision on this matter soon, very soon.
Thinking of the once-in-a-life-time opportunity that had been placed before her, similar to that which their former CO had been faced with, the Romulan/Terran hybrid had actually not required that much time to think about it. Looking back to her transfer to the position of COO, the Ops officer could only see that move as having been a positive one, like she expected this one to be in the long run. "Commander Rikar, I mean Captain, it would be an honor to serve you and the ship as XO. I will do my best not to disappoint and to uphold the highest possible standards."
Smiling back at the Romulan/Terran hybrid who looked to be as serious as ever, Cpt. Rikar wondered for a moment if the crew would be able meet all of the high standards the former COO had spoken of. Acknowledging the Ops officer's acceptance of the position, the two women exited the ready room to rejoin the rest of the bridge personnel and resume their preparations in view of their upcoming mission, the rescue of the MERCURY's crew.
