Stardate: 60324.1315
Setting: USS ANUBIS, CO's Ready Room
Following the find made by Lt. Maya and Ens. Summers, and the status report provided by David, the CO of the ANUBIS had called a meeting involving only some of the senior staff. Rescuing the crew of the MERCURY was still their goal, but the mission had taken on a completely new *dimension* which needed to talked about.
Inviting those who had been called to sit down, the CO waited until everyone was comfortable before Starting the meeting by looking at the CSciO. "Alright, what do we know so far? How did those creatures board the ship?"
Looking down at the PADD that she had brought along with her, the CSciO replied to the question in as short a form as she could. "Although it is impossible to get any sort of readings from the creatures themselves, we can state with a reasonable amount of certainty based on the specifics of the sub-space distortions that these creatures came from another dimension. We, that is to say Ens. Summers and I, also have confirmed that the DNA sample found on the one creature that was killed in Main Engineering came from the XO of the MERCURY."
Appearing pleased by the report, the CO turned to the rest of the gathered officers. "So we know that those *things* came from another dimension, but why? Does anyone have any thoughts on this?"
Seeing that no one had been ready to comment, the Romulan/Terran hybrid offered her thoughts on the developing situation. "Is it possible that those creatures are working for Zulot and T'Preel?"
Not at all appearing pleased with that possibility the ILO closed her eyes and said nothing, waiting to see and hear what the rest of the gathered officers would offer.
Nodding her support to the idea suggested by the XO, the Sec/Tac voiced her thoughts next. "That would give them a large tactical advantage since those creatures are able to get directly inside a ship. It would also explain why those two GALOR-Class destroyers were there."
Not understanding one specific problem that the ANUBIS had come up against, the CSciO followed up with a question which proved to be right on target. "So why didn't those two ships follow us when we escaped? I mean if they were there to assist those creatures, they should have opened fire the moment they saw that their allies were in trouble. No?"
Having had more than enough time to think about this entire affair prior to the meeting having been called, the ILO spoke next and gave her theory on the lack of action from the Cardassian destroyers. "Those creatures in Main Engineering went directly to the warp core; they were aiming to disable the ship."
Grinning at the idea that had formed in her head, the CO leaned over her desk placing her elbow on the smooth surface while interlacing her hands. "They didn't follow because they had not expected for us to be in any shape to move, and if we could move what was there to stop us from fighting back. We took them by surprise and they didn't know what to do next, so they let us go."
Standing across the room from the ILO, the Romulan/Terran hybrid pointed out the next obvious problem. "We will not be able to use the element of surprise again, and I am still questioning how we managed to be able to escape as we did."
Looking at the ILO as if expecting the stoic woman to either confirm or correct what she was about to say, the CO offered a potential explanation. "The defensive systems of the ANUBIS are not common in the fleet and it is likely that those creatures bit off more than they could handle. A mistake that I suspect they will not repeat if we give them another chance."
Allowing her inexperience take control for a moment, the Edo/Betazoid hybrid jumped in with that she had never expected to ask. "If? What about the crew of the MERCURY? I hope that you are not suggesting that we effect repairs and leave them to their fate?"
Not taking the words of the Sec/Tac officer in an offensive way, although the tone of the questions could have easily allowed the CO to do so, the Captain leaned back into her chair. "I have no intention of leaving the crew we were sent here to rescue to their fate as you said, but I also do not want to place *this* crew in a situation where they will not be able to return home. What I need are answers. We still don't know if the crew of the MERCURY were brought to this other dimension or if those two Cardassian ships were responsible for the capture of the men and women onboard.
Having remained silent up until now, the CNS gave her opinion on this particular subject as it fell within her general field of expertise. "Captain, I have had time to review the psychological files on both Gul Zulot and T'Preel and I doubt that either one of them would give control of the prisoners to anyone, not even aliens from another dimension. From what we know of them, it is much more plausible that they are using those creatures to gain the upper hand against ships lured in that region of space."
Looking pleased with the idea that they would not have to travel to another dimension to rescue the crew of the MERCURY, the CO turned her attention to the CSciO. "Then it is settled, our focus will be those two Cardassian GALOR-Class destroyers. Lt. Maya, you have until the ANUBIS' systems are back to full operational status to come up with some way to protect us from another attack from those dimensional creatures. Do not be afraid to call upon anyone on the crew for help as this is of the highest importance. We will have our hands full with those two Cardassian ships and it would be a great advantage for us if we didn't have to worry about fighting off more of those *things*."
Stepping forward a single step, the XO glanced at the Sec/Tac and ILO before addressing the CO. "In the meantime, Ens. Doratheva, Lt. Cmdr. Enaii and I will come up with a battle plan that will give us as much of a tactical advantage as we can have. We might not be able to use the element of surprise, but I am certain that the three of us can come up with something that will make the Cardassian wonder as to what hit them."
Taking a moment to look at the ILO who was still standing against the far wall, the CO smiled and for a brief moment pitied those Cardassians onboard the GALOR-Class destroyers that they would be going against. "Alright people, we have a lot of work to do and very little time to do it in, so lets get moving."
The meeting having come to an end, the gathered officers filed out of the CO's Ready Room and returned to their stations and the work that they needed to accomplish in order to place the odds of success well in their favour.
