Stardate: 60324.2030
Setting: USS ANUBIS, Susan Mei's quarters
It was easy for Susan to pretend that her safety was under no threat in the confines of her quarters. That is, as long as she avoided the window. It was simple to pretend that she was enjoying time off as she sat by her computer trying to find something to do with herself. Something useful. Or helpful. It was easy to convince herself that this was the best place for her.
It was not, however, easy to accept that. Grudgingly she opened up file after reviewed file. Psychological profiles, information on Cardassians. Her report on T'Preel and Zulot, and then closed them, unable to find anything of interest or importance. She started a personal log. Ended it. Tried again. Finally, she got up and paced.
That was the problem with being a counselor. One wasn't very useful while the ship was in battle. Before maybe. After definitely. During... Not unless you had some kind of magical ability to direct enemy weapons away from the ship, or empathic ability to tell how your enemies were feeling, or telepathic ability to tell what they were going to do or even - Susan admitted - tactical ability to fight them. Having none of these, Susan had reported to her quarters along with all the other 'non-essential' crew.
Suddenly she was thrown off her feet as the deck below her feet shook with a frightening tremor. She was thrown off balance slightly and grabbed onto a table for support. **Structural integrity.** she knew that much at least. While the slight breech of this was not something that was at the top of a captain's priories, it was still slightly frightening and served as a very unwelcome reminder of the fact that they were in battle. Susan shivered involuntarily, feeling all of a sudden very vulnerable. She would have taken TANGIERS ORBITAL over this anytime.
