Setting: USS ANUBIS, Bridge
Stardate: 60324.2330
The young woman stood at the back of the bridge where the ExO would
normally stand… being late at night and having successfully left the two
Cardassian ships behind, the crew of the ANUBIS had been able to take some well deserved time to rest. At least that had been the premise for the CO
ordering the senior staff to take some time to regain their strength
before tackling the rescue of the MERCURY's crew.
As the redheaded woman reviewed the report made by the MCO, Rikar could not help herself but to display a bright smile on her pink lips. The computer *gift* left behind by Corporal Yang had insured that neither ship would be following them any time soon… that this had been by either design or luck the CO didn't care, she was simply grateful.
The task accomplished by the Marines had been more than deserving of some down time, but the young woman knew that this rest period could be short lived depending on how long it would take Lt. Cmdr. Maya to decode the computer records that had been downloaded from the Cardassian's mainframe. Beyond the ability to decipher the information, the crew of the ANUBIS faced another problem… their ability to fight their way through whatever protective systems they would encounter on their way there. That problem had been the main concern of the CEO, a concern that had kept him and his staff very busy.
While thinking about the amount of work on the plate of the CEO, the young woman turned around and looked at the back of the bridge to see the CSciO lost in a world of her own creation… a universe consisting of computer codes and Cardassian encrypting systems… a universe that the Shillian seemed bent on conquering with all due haste. The CO had overheard a short conversation between Enaii and Maya in which the scientist had requested the assistance of the IGC staff to break the data encryption. Considering all of the resources available to those found inside of the Intel Gathering Centre, Sabrina had high hopes that the location of the missing crew would be revealed very soon. All that she needed at the moment was a little bit of patience.
"Captain… I have just received a request from Main Engineering for us to drop out of warp speed. They need to make some repairs to the main propulsion system. Our not travelling at warp speed would also enable the Exo-Comps to work faster at rebuilding the outer hull." The acting Ops officer and ship's Avatar announced as the young woman made her way around the stations located behind her seat. Since the ANUBIS had no actual destination to head for, the redheaded woman saw no harm in accommodating the request that had been made.
"Helm… take us out of warp. Try to find us a nice a quiet place for us to stay put for a little while." The CO ordered, glad that for this mission they had been graced with the talents and experience of the Oltharian at the FCO's station.
"Aye Captain." Elan acknowledged as he scanned his console for a location that would accomodate the Captain's orders.
As the ship dropped out of warp speed, the main view screen went from displaying streaking stars to showing a distant dark coloured nebula that seemed to be of no special interest. A quick glance at the console located on the armrest of the command chair gave the CO an idea of just how uninteresting the nebula had been.
"Sensors are not picking up any abnormal radiation or any excessive amount of matter within the boundaries of the nebula. I believe that this nebula will be a perfect hiding place while the repairs are completed, the sensors dampening properties of our hull masking our presence to any nearby ship… not that there seems to be anyone in the nearby vicinity." The giant FCO reported, prompting the CO to smile and nod.
"Very well… take us in and inform Lt. Dawson that all available resources are is to use. I want the ship back to full operational status as soon as possible." The young woman announced, finding this little stopover to be both a curse and a blessing. Staying put would speed up the repairs but it would also mean that the ANUBIS would be going nowhere… something that by itself had not been all that bad as the CO could not know if they had been heading *away* or *towards* what would turn out to be their final destination and the location of the MERCURY's crew.
As the ship entered the nebula, the redheaded woman turned to see if maybe she could offer her services as a former CSciO to Maya, but the CO quickly reconsidered her idea seeing that the Shillian had been far too immersed in her work to be disturbed. Since her knowledge of Engineering was lacking to say the least, Sabrina had not thought of making the same offer to help to David who would have likely laughed and dismissed the action as having been a bad joke. When the ANUBIS came to a complete stop inside of the slowly moving stellar cloud, the Captain came to fully realise that for the time being there would be only 1 thing for her to do… to wait for the night to end, the repairs to be completed and for the location of the MERCURY's crew to finally be revealed.
